While it’s true that Kasparov is almost as good at playing chess as my iPhone, he is otherwise an idiot

You know it’s bad when Africans are making fun of the n*g*ers and their rap music 💀
This is exactly why Anthropic pisses me off.
You can keep saying the watermark doesn’t change ownership, doesn’t identify the user, doesn’t affect quality, doesn’t add hidden characters, and won’t look any different to readers. Fine. But that is not the whole issue. The issue is that you are still marking work that a human being may have thought through, structured, argued, and emotionally meant, just because AI helped process it.
AI assistance is not authorship. If I wrote the idea, the argument, the meaning, the emotional core, and the final judgment, then it is my work. If Claude helped translate it, polish a sentence, or make it clearer, that does not suddenly make Claude the author. But a watermark absolutely changes how people perceive authorship. People are not going to say, “Claude may have been involved in processing this text.” They are going to say, “AI wrote this.”
And honestly, who the hell are you to do that to my writing? Who gave you the right to stamp your model’s involvement onto work that came from my thoughts, my experience, my voice, and my judgment? You can say it does not change ownership all you want, but socially, reputationally, and creatively, it absolutely changes how the work is read.
So fine. Do whatever you want. Build your watermarking system. Follow whatever framework you want. I’m not using Claude. Good luck.
We’ve written an FAQ to answer some of the questions we've received about watermarking.
In summary:
• We’re implementing watermarking to comply with the EU AI Act. Other major model developers have signed the same Code of Practice and will also be implementing watermarking;
• Our watermarking method doesn’t have any practical impact on the quality or content of Claude’s outputs;
• The difference between watermarked and un-watermarked text will not be distinguishable to readers;
• Nothing is added to the text and there are no hidden characters;
• Watermarking doesn’t require extra tokens, and will not be more expensive;
• Watermarks can’t be traced to a specific person, organization, or chat.

Digging has resumed at the site that keeps rewriting the beginning of civilization.
Karahantepe in Türkiye, sister site of Göbeklitepe, has opened its seventh excavation season. The target this year is a mysterious rectangular hall, roughly 9 by 7 meters, its walls still standing 3.5 meters high with original plaster intact after 11,000 years.
Inside, benches carved from bedrock, four pillars, and the strangest feature of all, a stone bowl built into the north wall with a channel to carry liquid. A room plumbed for ritual, a hundred centuries before Rome.
The dig runs to October, then a protective roof seals the building for good. Whatever is in there comes out this season.

A Path of Exile 2 player willingly deleted their level 100 character so everyone else in the league could get a buff.
The new “Martyr of the First Edict” mechanic lets the first player to hit level 100 sacrifice their character, permanently deleting it in exchange for giving every other player an extra passive skill point.
Streamer cArn was one of the first to do it, deleting his fully geared level 100 Titan.
His character is gone, but it is now permanently remembered on the league ladder as a “Martyr of the First Edict.”
Players are calling it one of the coolest additions to Path of Exile 2.
