Just an awful day in Canadian sports media with the shuttering of 650 & 960.
To the people who lost jobs- please understand that your work is appreciated and held up as a standard.
Both stations delivered elite programming that was cherished daily. Radio is a one-on-one experience for anyone who listens and when it vanishes, it's jarring. When a big tree falls there is no obvious replacement. To listeners I offer my best thoughts.
Also, I want to stress that there is life after working for one of the large corporations. I know this personally.
You are all too good to be out of work for any amount of time. Go read the praise about you here and believe it. You impacted people in a profound way. You made the sports experience better.
Sports is great, it makes people feel things they don't have a name for. And you were part of that and will be again.

Sad day for all my talented brethren on Fan 960, which closed shop today.
They should all be very proud of the work they did, helping make the station a staple in Calgary for Flames news.

Ugh. Brutal news about Sportsnet960. As a guy that goes back to Bart Dailley calling Flames games in 1980, Peter Maher taking over in 1981, John Henderson hosting 'Hockey Talk' post-game... radio has long been an institution. Super sad for Pat, Logan, Derek, and the current crew.

A thought: in the early '90s, the #Flames dismantled their Cup-winning team due to sheer economic necessity, not by choice.
Since '23, Conroy has carefully dismantled his team. I'm fascinated as to what comes next. Especially since it's unprecedented in club history.
