Marc Rardin won three national titles at Iowa Western and now runs Western Kentucky, and he put his finger on the whole youth baseball problem in one sentence: kids have to love to work more than they like to play, and what we are doing right now is just playing. Off Monday through Wednesday, tournament Thursday through Sunday, then off again. Nobody works at getting better. The showcase circuit measures. It does not build.
