Quelle plaisir de travailler avec @tardifgen ce matin @RDSca pour ce dernier match @NFL à Londres cette saison. Bon dimanche de 🏈.
Well, looks like the "35-Second Squeeze" is becoming a structural reality.
Through Wk 19 (73 games), the @CFL data matches the biology:
📈 58.7 PPG (+5.8 YoY)
🚨 "Too Many Men" calls up 156%
🏥 83% of Q4 injuries hit gassed front-7s

Replying to @63Sutherland
If the @CFL was looking for increased scoring and offense, mission accomplished. But at what cost? This isn't about rolling things back; it’s about balance, player safety, and fixing substitution mechanics.

Getting ready for some @REDBLACKS 🏈 tonight live from @bcplace as they face the streaking @BCLions. Looking forward to the call with @TheSuperAJ.

As we get ready for a massive day of @CFL action, here are the latest "35-Second Squeeze" numbers: Running the Wk 13 & 14 gamebooks shows the Wk 11 findings weren't just guys getting into game shape early in the year. This is the new reality of the 2026 35-second clock. 🧵 1/6
Trapped on the Field: Offensive tempo is literally locking defenses in. We're seeing 1.6 substitution lockouts per Q4 unit, piled on top of an average defensive load of 19.3 snaps per unit. Guys just can't get off the field to catch a breath. 7/8
Week 12 is in the books.
After running the numbers, the "35-Second Squeeze" on CFL defenses continues.
Key 4th Q metrics thru Wk 12:
• Big Plays (15+ yds): 3.75/gm
• Verified Injuries: 0.425/gm
• Def Penalties: 1.85/gm
• Sub-Lock (<25s)*: 14.2/unit
*25s reactive window
Have you noticed the uptick in scoring and offense this season in the @CFL ? Well it isn’t just great offensive scheming or magical O-line play. It’s biology. The league's new 35-sec play clock has quietly triggered a major shift for defenses—and the film and data prove it.🧵👇
Heat Tax Relief On The Horizon
Numbers are likely to stabilize slightly after Labour Day. High summer heat acts as an intensifier. As the weather cools, the thermal strain will drop, even as the 35s clock fatigue remains.
Quick update on the "35-Second Squeeze": V1.1 is now live. The methodology has been cleaned up—correcting penalty trends and moving to a 25s window for safe substitutions.
The core thesis holds, the data is cleaner. Dive into the updated baseline here: drive.google.com/file/d/1x-3…
This is exactly what @angusreid64 was saying on the show yesterday. Find what works for them. Help them develop that.

Ricky Williams says the worst coaching mistake is asking people to do things they can’t do
“My favorite coach I ever had was Nick Saban, what I loved was he made the expectation clear. ‘This is your job. ‘This is exactly what we expect from you.’ ‘If you do this, we’re good. ‘If you don’t, there’s going to be issues.’ Those are the kind of coaches I love.”
“The second thing is, some coaches have their system and they just say, ‘The guys have to fit in our system.’ My thing is, then make sure you draft the guys that fit in your system. Because the worst thing is you ask guys to do things that they can’t do.”
“I want a coach that appreciates what I do well and gives me opportunities to do that, but also to get better. Norv Turner was offensive coordinator my first year in Miami. He loved gap scheme, and that’s my thing.”
“We figured out he had a play called inside zone scissors. When I led the NFL in rushing, I probably had 75% of my yards off that one play. He realized that if you zone block, give me space and put a little misdirection in there, it’s going to be really hard for those defensive guys to get me. So we ran it over and over. And tore up the league doing it.”

To add to the defensive pressure, games are closer than ever in the final frame this season. A whopping 69% of CFL games in 2026 have come down to the final 3 minutes—just when defenses are completely out of gas.
