There's been a sudden escalation for the ongoing seismic swarm that started near Vanuatu today, with two magnitude 5.7 earthquakes now striking back-to-back. The mainshock of the event thus far has been a M6.0, but the many magnitude 5.0+ earthquakes make the "aftershock" sequence anomalously energetic and now it appears most likely that all of this is a foreshock swarm before a higher magnitude earthquake, likely M7.0+.
