โUK Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband confronted Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov at the G20 foreign ministersโ meeting, accusing Moscow of having no intention of ending its war against Ukraine and warning that Russia would not win.
โWe all know who the aggressor is in this war. Just yesterday, Russian drones attacked and killed 15 people at a railway station in Dnipro. And there are countless examples of you killing innocent civilians throughout this entire war. We all know that you are the aggressor,โ Miliband said, according to Sky News.
He added that Russian leader Vladimir Putin had expected to win the war quickly but had underestimated Ukraineโs resistance and international support.
โPutin thought he would win this war easily. But you will not win this war. Thanks to the courage of the Ukrainian people and the solidarity of the nations represented at this table, you will not win,โ Miliband said.
He urged Lavrov to acknowledge that Russia could not achieve victory and convey that message to Putin.
โIf you had the courage to tell the truth and do the right thing, you would tell Putin that he is not winning this war and will not win it,โ he added.
Following the meeting, EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said Lavrov had made numerous false and distorted statements but showed no willingness to engage in peace negotiations.
โEven if the Russians claim otherwise in words, their actions suggest otherwise. Russia must prove through its actions that it is ready for negotiations,โ Kallas told AFP.
She pointed to the large number of Ukrainian civilians killed in Russian attacks during July, August and September, calling for continued pressure on Moscow, particularly to secure a ceasefire in the Black Sea.
Asked why she had not taken a joint photo with Lavrov, Kallas replied: โWe must not normalize war crimes at this table.โ

In a repulsive new low even for the Trumps, Melania Trump ignited a well-deserved firestorm Friday after her pathologically dishonest husband and his regime had the audacity to credit her with single-handedly securing a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine in the city of Oleshky.
