This is the Michael Jackson suite at Concorde Hotel in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
On this day in 1996, MJ checked into Room 1818 ahead of his concerts on the HIStory World Tour and left more than just a signature behind.
‘Saya cinta Malaysia’ is still written in gold across a portrait that greets you. Clothes he discarded because fans had partially torn them trying to get to close to him, lyrics he scribbled, a portrait of MJ painted by renowned artist Dato Imuda signed by MJ, never before seen photos of his stay in Kuala Lumpur and the quiet presence of a man who was soft spoken in private and electric on stage At Merdeka Stadium remain untouched inside the suite. Recently the hotel and some local radio stations have held very limited special openings so that a handful of lucky fans can go in in see this musical sanctuary frozen in time.
