The most depressing sight on my regular commute is watching the flexposts at Queensboro Plaza get mowed down as soon as they’re replaced by @NYC_DOT, with the red barrels used in the interim being crushed one after another. Park Ave used to have an actually park running down the middle. Then in the 1920s the median was shrunk to make more room for cars.
And now great news: a new plan will restore the median, more than doubling its width, adding walkways, benches & landscaping, from 46th to 57th St.
