This morning, Chief Thai Truong and members of the London Police Service joined police and peace officers for the start of the 22nd Annual National Peace Officers’ Memorial Run. 🏃‍♂️ As the run to remember gets underway, we pause to remember the officers who have lost their lives in the Line of Duty and honour the sacrifices they made in service to their communities. This weekend, LPS members will be in Ottawa for the 49th annual Canadian Police and Peace Officers Memorial Service on Sunday, September 27. Alongside police and peace officers from across Canada, we will gather to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice and to stand with the families, friends and colleagues who continue to carry their memory. We remember. We honour. We will never forget. 💙 The memorial service will be livestreamed this Sunday at 10:30 am. August 17, 2026 Dear friends and family, Preparations are well underway for the 49th Annual Canadian Police and Peace Officers’ National Memorial Service, which will take place on Parliament Hill on Sunday, September 27, 2026, at 1100hrs. This has been an especially difficult year for our police and peace officer community. We have lost five police officers and three peace officers in the line of duty, including three police officers killed in violent incidents over roughly two weeks. Each loss has been felt across our community and, as we prepare for September, the officers and the people who knew and loved them are very much in our thoughts. Their deaths are a sobering reminder of the risks that accompany service and the importance of ensuring that service is always remembered. On Memorial Weekend, we will come together to stand beside those families, honour the officers whose names will be added to the Memorial this year, and remember the more than 900 police and peace officers commemorated there. More than anything, it is our opportunity to assure their families that their loved ones’ service and sacrifice remain part of our collective memory, and that they will not be left to carry that remembrance alone. A Parade Briefing for agency and service commanders will take place at the Ottawa Police Association at 1230hrs on Saturday, September 26. Valid identification will be required for entry into the building. The service format, posture, and footprint will remain the same as last year. The service will be conducted on the lawn of Parliament Hill facing East Block. Once again, we will be sharing the lawn with preparations for another important national event, the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, which takes place on September 30. The Reading of the Names will begin at 0900hrs on Sunday at the Pavilion at the rear of Parliament Hill. All parade participants are asked to report to the usual mustering location around the Supreme Court and along Wellington Street between Kent and Lyon Streets. Limited parking is available behind the Confederation Building, with additional street parking on adjacent roadways. There will be hard road closures, so please allow enough time to arrive, find parking, locate your column, and muster with your service or agency. Mustering will take place between 0830hrs and 1000hrs. Parade Marshals will be on hand to assist with mustering and provide direction. Pipe bands will meet and form up on the north extension of Kent Street next to the Justice Building before stepping onto Wellington Street ahead of their assigned columns. Motorcycles will form up on Wellington Street between Bank and Kent Streets. The parade will step off at 1020hrs sharp. The 49th Annual Canadian Police and Peace Officers’ National Memorial Service will commence at 1100hrs and last approximately one hour. At the conclusion of the service, we will conduct the traditional March Past the Headdress in column of route. Columns are directed to continue marching west until they are clear of the Hill, giving every column the opportunity to conduct the March Past and properly pay their respects. The Minister’s Reception immediately following the service is an invitation-only event restricted to the families of fallen officers. Our weekend events will include the Next-of-Kin Welcoming Reception for the families of fallen officers on Saturday evening. This will be followed by a Candlelight Vigil at the Memorial Tablets, where families will have some private time to reflect before Sunday’s service. We also look forward to welcoming participants in the Run to Remember and Ride to Remember as they arrive on Parliament Hill at 1500hrs on Saturday, September 26. The Memorial Ribbon is a folded blue ribbon on black backing featuring the Memorial logo in the centre. We encourage the wearing of the ribbon, in accordance with each service’s policies, beginning Monday, September 21, through the end of the day on Sunday, September 27. Ribbons for your service can be acquired by visiting: memorialribbon.org. Please check the official CPPOM blog for further updates as they become available: cppom.ca/2026/03/13/cppom202… I hope you will make plans now to join us in Ottawa as we honour our fallen and stand together with their families. The National Peace Officers Memorial Run was started back in 2005 by members of the Peel Regional Police running team ”Peel Pacers”. The team embarked on a three-day journey from Toronto (Memorial Wall) to Ottawa (Parliament Hill) to honour our fallen officers who have paid the ultimate sacrifice. This year we kicked off the 22nd annual Run to Remember with over 300 runners from across Canada running to honour those who have died in the line of duty. Wishing all the runners a safe journey! #HeroesInLife #RunToRemember
