Consistency is key! I had a meeting yesterday with a Good Things Guy reader. They requested the meeting. It’s been in my diary for weeks now. I wasn’t quite sure why they wanted to meet but I agreed. We jumped on the Zoom and they explained that they are busy building their “empire” and wanted to understand what made Good Things Guy so successful. I was left a little speechless for a second. Calling my little platform successful. What a bladdy honour. I started telling them the story of how Good Things Guy was born. The Nek nominations. The RAK nominations. How I started working at CliffCentral. How I realised the need for good news in South Africa was huge and I needed to be telling them on a bigger platform. How I started a Facebook Page. How I launched the website in 2014. And then how I worked solidly for 7 whole years. You see, maybe you’ve just stumbled upon me or Good Things Guy but it’s 8 years old this year and for the first 7 years, I did not take a day off. Not a single day. I worked for 2,555 days without taking a single day off. Come rain, or shine, or Christmas, or birthdays, or hangovers, or holidays, or pandemics, or anything and everything in between, I made sure that I was writing and publishing articles. Every single day. At first, it was just 1 a day, and that quickly became 3 and then 6. I am not sure why but I felt like 6 a day was the right number. For perspective, a good story can take an hour or two to craft. And so I spent every day doing just that. Crafting good news stories. Every day. For 7 years. Now, the team can publish up to 15 articles a day. Yes, 15 good news stories. Just flipping crazy. I am so proud of all the countless hours the entire team put into Good Things Guy. I digress. I was chatting with Andrew last night about the meeting. I had forgotten about the start of Good Things Guy. I mean, not forgotten, I guess I just filed it away. And I think that’s why I am sharing this with you. This beautiful platform, my job, this gift I have been given that some call a success started with a simple idea, and then days and nights of really, really hard work, dedication, and perseverance. Consistency. It all comes down to consistency. And maybe a little obsession. Ja, consistency and obsession are the dynamic duo that turns dreams into reality.
