ALT A black and white fuzzy single frame from a combat film, taken off the shore of Normandy, France - June 6, 1944. The camera looks out at a distant shoreline fogged with gunpowder smoke, allied infantry of approximately 70 men in the frame are seen stretched all the way to the beach wading the waist high water with their backs to the camera. In the center of the frame, the camera is perched above a landing craft, bobbing in the water with the unloading ramp already dropped down in the water. These men are about to face certain death of enemy guns entrenched ahead, with an advantage tucked into pill boxes high on the hill and shooting down at these men, as the D-Day landing commences and the start of the liberation of France begins. Ultimately German forces are defeated in the months ahead.
