An increase in breast cancer diagnoses earlier and earlier in addition to higher mortality rates in Black women caused the USPSTF to change the average age of beginning mammograms to 40 years old instead of 50 previously. Read more on the story here: amp.cnn.com/cnn/2023/05/09/h…

Kudos to @kaufield for spelling it out. Women in all 🇨🇦 must be able to self-refer for mammography screening starting @40not50. Access should not depend on where a woman lives. Early detection matters: it determines the harshness of therapy required, and the chances of survival.
Great op-ed! Thank you to @kaufield for your advocacy on behalf of the women of New Brunswick! @premierbhiggs @BruceFitchMLA please give the women of NB a chance to find breast cancer early. The same chance that women in other provinces have. @nb_docs

17% of breast cancers occur in the 40s, and they grow faster than on older women. 27% of life years lost are in women diagnosed in their 40s. To find them early: screening mammograms starting @40not50, and supplemental ultrasound or MRI for the 40% of women with #densebreasts.
⁦I just received this from @CancerCare_ON⁩ recommending women age 50+ get screened for breast cancer. This is a conversation that at least begins at age 40. Time for an update. ⁦@NightShiftMD⁩ ⁦@gilldeacon⁩ ⁦@JeanSeely⁩
