This is a woeful, unnecessary, dangerous and ultimately homophobic Bill. You and @andyburnham need to listen to the many clinical and legal experts who've spoken out and scrap it.

'Let’s take the three subjects Ms Gilruth mentioned in turn: firstly, “a Scotland in which women are silenced”. The deputy first minister provided no examples, but let me. Twice, I went to attempts by a group of women to screen a documentary about women’s rights, Adult Human Female. The first time, it couldn’t go ahead because of a large group of protesters and the second time, it went ahead but only thanks to heavy security. I spoke to both sides and the women trying to screen the film couldn’t have been less right-wing if they’d tried, and the protesters who were trying to silence them were absolutely of the Left, not the Right.' heraldscotland.com/politics/…

Not one person at the SNP conference sounded a single word of caution about this. Even Plaid Cymru and the Lib Dems have more of a spine. The party is utterly intellectually adrift.

What it means @BBCWomansHour is that NHS guidance was wrong and illegal. There Supreme Court ruling CLARIFIED the law. The law didn't change.
Re the conversion practices bill…where is the gap in the law? Where is the evidence that new legislation is necessary? @BayswaterSG @murdo_fraser @BinTheBill_ @Jebadoo2 @CMochan @nickwallis @WWWheesht @HumanGayMale
The lack of evidence to support the 'transgender identity' aspect of the government's conversion practices bill would be risible if the consequences were not so appalling.
Let's take what is virtually the opening paragraph of the updated Equality Impact Assessment, which claim "There is growing evidence on the harm associated with conversion practices, including long lasting damage to those who go through it".
A footnote is given with 3 references, which an innocent reader might imagine would back up that claim.
Two of the references relate to work commissioned by the Government Equalities Office in 2021 to research conversion therapy (which was the term used before the broader concept of 'conversion practices' was adopted). How confident are these researchers that their work offered reliable evidence? In their own words: "Whether or not these experiences constitute ‘conversion therapy’ may depend on the definition, but they were perceived to be so by the interviewees."
As for specific examples of 'conversion' on people with a gender identity, the researchers chose to cite cases in therapy such as "looking for ‘causes’ by discussing childhood trauma and family relationships". Yet government officials have repeatedly stated that exploratory therapy of this kind does NOT qualify as 'conversion'.
In summary, the 2021 research admits that what is reported as 'conversion' might not qualify as such, and fails to offer any examples of even subjective claims of so-called gender identity conversion that would warrant criminal sanctions.
What about the 3rd reference cited in the EqIA? This is a report by the American Psychological Association, which states: "we limited our review to sexual orientation and did not address gender identity".
In conclusion: 3 citations, no evidence that could remotely be relied on for the accompanying claim as it relates to (trans)gender identity. And this is the basis for introducing a new criminal offence punishable with up to 5 years in prison.

The @theSNP conference has just passed a resolution demanding Scotland impose a “comprehensive” conversion practices ban within a year.
It must cover all medical and religious settings, have no consent loophole, and explicitly include practices targeted at “trans and non-binary people.”
This is reckless. It ignores the Cass Review’s warning that exploratory therapy is essential for gender-distressed young people and that equating it with conversion practices will frighten clinicians away from providing proper care.
It is also profoundly homophobic. The majority of the recent surge in gender-distressed youth — especially adolescent girls — are same-sex attracted. Broad bans that treat any non-affirmation as “conversion” risk medicalising and sterilising gay and lesbian young people under the banner of “LGBTQIA+ equality.”
Parents who refuse to buy a chest binder, therapists who explore trauma, autism or social influence rather than immediately affirming, and pastoral care that does not affirm identity ideology could all be criminalised.
There is no robust evidence of widespread coercive practices beyond what is already illegal.
Women and girls are already paying the price for this ideology in schools, sports, prisons and healthcare.
This resolution doubles down on the failed approaches of the GRR, Named Person scheme and Hate Crime Act.

The NHS policy of including males in female spaces has had devastating results for women's safety, as our ground-breaking NHS Reports revealed.
🚩 Over a four year period more than 6,500 rapes and sexual assaults - some against children under 13 - were committed in hospitals in England and Wales.
🚩 In Scotland 276 sexual assaults and 12 rapes were committed between 2019 and 2024 in just 57 of Scotland’s 198 hospitals.
The NHS put women and children in harm’s way with its relentless drive for ‘inclusion’ of males in the female estate. The news that the NHS in England will finally comply with the law is good news and long overdue.

Zelenskyy the fraud is finally being found out.
Where is the full record of the £25 BILLION of British taxpayers money that both Labour and the Conservatives have handed over since 2022 with almost no scrutiny?
Ukraine has long been one of the most corrupt countries in the world. Our weak leaders have let us be taken for fools while Britain’s standing collapses.
All funding must stop immediately.
Many congratulations to @ucl Prof Sallie Baxendale on being shortlisted for the Maddox Prize for standing up for science.
'Baxendale told THE that being shortlisted for the Maddox Prize “isn’t just a personal vindication” given the standing of the prize in the scientific community.
“It sends a message that scientific scrutiny is something to be encouraged, rather than feared,” she said.
“I sincerely hope this recognition gives others the confidence to speak up, challenge unsupported claims and insist that evidence remains at the heart of decision-making, particularly in the field of gender medicine, but in all areas of medicine, where assumptions and misplaced certainty can have very real consequences for people’s lives.”'
