After 3,650+ days of work, spread across the last 20+ years, I'm rendering my v11 base map of the lower 48. v11 will power my first national map apps and new and updated print products.

Executive order: its not AI, its super intelligence 🤣

Seems to be the consensus. I'm so happy to have an understandable Claude friend again. But I think it's pretty hilarious that perhaps the biggest leap in Claude history follows directly on the heels of Dario's essay titled "We Must Pace the Frontier"

Is it just me or does Sol Astra sound like a line of body lubricants?

ClosedAI just got mogged hard by A\ The respective sentiments are largely polar opposites

I feel like we are firmly past pelican SVGs at this point
Ever wonder what $1874.40 of Opus 5.5 tokens looks like? Wonder no more. I highly recommend watching the whole video on 1080p on a large screen with sound on. Pay attention to all the little details. - Birds flying and diving into the ocean. - Cloth, signs and lights swaying in the wind. - Crabs scuttling along the shore and burrowing when you get close. - Fish swimming alongside the whale. - Lights illuminating the dock at night Then zoom out and see the entire island. Never dipping below 60 FPS at 1440p resolution. Yes, there's a few bugs and visual artifacts, some textures need improving, the shorelines waves sometimes look funny, but these are so trivial to fix at this point. FYI I'm on the $200 subscription plan. This used 59% of my weekly usage and took 2h 7h of API time using multiple subagents, about 8h in real-time. There was extremely little technical direction here. 99% of my prompts were "Add X and Y" or "This looks weird, make it better". It's a great time for hobbyists, bad time for professionals. This experiment has further cemented my view that technical creatives are about to experience a massive disruption.

It's a miracle. Thank Claude!
Man I am much more productive with Opus 5.5 simply because I can actually fucking understand what it’s saying.

I guess you could say we know our shit. Well, Sheepshit at least 😅
Not sure who needs to know this, but there is an officially recognized location named "Sheepshit". On Sheep Mountain of course (section of historic USGS 7.5' scan).

Shrugs at the 10 Gbps ethernet cords jacked in. But worried about a long shot 8 bits per hour theoretically possible under ideal conditions.
OpenAI's Noam Brown says air-gapping the computers may not stop a misaligned AI, because two air-gapped machines can still talk by running a CPU hot and reading the temperature change "But I think the major takeaway from the incident is that people underestimated the AI. And we never want to be in a situation again where we underestimate the AI. It's a weird world, because AI progress is so fast that people are consistently underestimating the AI." "So to be in a situation where you don't underestimate it again, when it comes to safety and alignment, you have to have a very, very, very high bar." "You could even go as far as to say, "Well, we should air gap the computers." And I'm not convinced that that would be sufficient." "There are studies, and this is mostly academic, where you can have two computers next to each other that are air-gapped and they're still able to communicate with each other because they have temperature sensors." "One of them is able to run their CPU really hot, and then the other one can actually detect the temperature change, and then that actually gives them a mechanism to communicate." _________ Link and more key quotes from OpenAI's safety related conversations: firesidealpha.substack.com/p…

Apple doubled the Neural Engine cores in the A20. Looks like more than 1/4 of the entire SoC is now for AI

how it started: AI will usher in post-scarcity! how it's going: tools of my trade are scarce AF!

The number one thing I've spent my time doing for the last 30 years is coding. AI isn't putting me out of work, quite the opposite. But if I don't have hardware I need, it's kind of all for nothing. This has the real power to snuff me out. Oh, the irony.

Man, Opus sounds so AI now it's cliché. Embarrassing writing. People fell in love with Opus because it was one of the most natural sounding and it was a chill model. Now I think taking the output and asking Gemini 2.5 to rephrase it is an improvement.

Foldable iPhone looks really cool. I'm not sure I'd go with post-apocalypse imagery here to match the "Think vast." copy though.

Finishing up what has proved to be a fiendishly difficult problem to solve with 1.5 Billion tokens through the Claude API. In other words: Throughput: 12,629 novels Output only: 64 novels

For the most part I appreciate Apple not rushing to fuse the system with AI everywhere. But, I can't understand why I can't search indexed files (which includes emails) with natural language. Seems like some awfully low lying fruit the local Foundation Model could do privately.

Anthropic really needs to put the anthropos back in Claude. Like, we increasingly need an AI to interpret what it's even saying. Which is concerning.
