Utrecht University @UniUtrecht in the Netherlands has withdrawn itself from the World University ranking @THEworldunirank provided by @timeshighered. As this has generated quite some reactions - praise, questions, some doubts, I want to provide some context. Hence a thread 🧵1/16

This is fantastic news - I'm so excited to see this happen. Most of the research published here in NZ can be made OA at no additional cost going through the green route.
It’s unacceptable that publicly funded research is locked up behind paywalls.
That’s why the govt will be requiring open access publication of MBIE funded science.
This will give us all better access to knowledge & drive greater impact from science.

Indeed, power imbalances also prevail in the Pacific, in nearly all sectors; even affects how media cover the crisis. It was my privilege to be on the panel and share insights from our region, with common goal of improving overall coverage of the dire situation in the Pacific.
It was an absolute pleasure to chair this session with @marcdaalder, @ShailendraBSing, @VeronikaMeduna, @Jeff_Sparrow. I wish we'd had another hour to dive into my long list of questions. My takeaway - power imbalances are everywhere. It's time for the grassroots revolution!
