Imagine you want to row from France to England and you can choose route A) 22 miles to Dover, or route B) 120 miles to Great Yarmouth. Rupert Lowe thinks people would choose B. Rupert is an idiot.

OK, can I just check on this. Sending someone to jail for inciting racial hatred is draconian and oppressive. But sending gangs of vigilantes after people out on a charity row is pubic spirited and fine. Is that how we all want it to work.

Great Yarmouth is a full 120 miles from the French coast.
In comparison, Dover is just 21 miles from Calais.
The fact that Rupert Lowe thinks migrants might be coming ashore in Great Yarmouth really does show just how unbelievably stupid he really is.

The IPPR has proposed large increases in gambling taxes, to raise ยฃ3bn to "lift around half a million children out of poverty overnight".
I'm torn. It's a good tax to raise. But ยฃ3bn may be optimistic. And it will mostly be gamblers paying the tax.
