This will be the running thread for the Dark Fantasy Faceoff! I’ll be reading the prologue and first chapter or first two chapters if there’s no prologue of every book to decide which I will read next. This will be a running thread today as I post my live reactions. Here we go!

Finished The Truth the other day. Probably my favorite novella in this series so far. It makes me want to dive into The Fall again! Lots of interesting revelations that up the stakes going into the final book in a couple years. 4.5 ⭐️ 9/10

Finished this one. Probably one of my least favorite entries but still solid. The dream sequences were the best part but it was confusing and the plot didn’t advance at all. Felt like a stop gap book rather than the first of the final arc. 3.5 ⭐️ 7.5/10

Proud of the Guardians for not giving up and fighting back. Jose, Jose Jose Jose, Jose, Jose! Big Rig with 12 K, 21 overall. Dominant performance against the flukey White Sox. On to Tampa!

Let’s go! I think I got chills reading the first sentence and it’s not because it was special in any way… reading Erikson is just like coming home after a long journey… he (and Malazan) are my cozy fantasy

Finished this today! Scratched that sci-fi itch and a solid start to a new trilogy. The ending was a bit underwhelming compared to his other explosive final acts but I look forward to seeing where this goes. 4 ⭐️ 7.5/10

I completely forgot this was releasing today, so excited! Killer start that gets the heartstrings pulled in the first two chapters. I’m so excited for this storyline as I suspect a lot of questions will be answered. I want a whole series set in The Order’s time period.

Flying through this when compared to the first one. I think having the worldbuilding as a foundation has allowed me to focus more on the prose and vocabulary to enjoy the story. Even though I’m 25% in and not much has happened yet. Hailleron’s song for Jaelot was awesome tho!

Whoever cleans the Kansas City Royals visiting clubhouse has to be super upset after this past week

Back to WOLAS for another round. I hear the world really opens up with this book and with a lot of the more difficult to understand world building already done and a foundation I hope this will be a much faster read for me!

Finished this first entry into an awesome dark fantasy series. I thoroughly enjoyed myself, especially all the dream/flashback scenes. Barodane rocks and I need to see Wolst fight on the big screen. It’s a strong first book and I will continue for sure! 4 ⭐️ 8/10

Think I’m going to go on record and say after reading thoughts and reviews from people I trust, going to pass on the Cytoverse and Blightfall going forward. Honestly have no interest in any other authors writing in Sanderson’s worlds. I understand why he is doing it tho

Started reading this today. Excited to see where the final arc of the original 9 goes! Not sure how much I like the new POV 6 chapters in but maybe he’ll grow on me. As long as Croaker is still here…

Finished Part 1 so about 65% done. This is definitely a nice slow build up to what I hope is a thrilling back half. Really enjoying it despise it taking so long, reading time has really been down for me. Also, Dragga is Gaston and you can’t convince me otherwise!

Finished this one yesterday. It was a fun book with a new, intriguing voice mixed with the old. Only complaint I had was the ending with the big reveal felt very abrupt. Would’ve liked more earned closure to end the duology arc. 4 ⭐️ 8/10 still

My reading has been slowed quite a bit but halfway through now and I’m enjoying myself. The new POV switch has been a fun change to look behind this character’s eyes and see how they tick. Can’t wait for it all to go down in the back half!

25% done. Slow pace so far but it doesn’t matter because I love the different POV characters and am fascinated by the gradual lore reveals and finding out more about this world.

After the cliffhanger in Shadow Games I just had to jump right into this. Already I’m liking the new direction due to that ending and all it might portend. Cover art looks like a bad 80’s hair metal album cover though…!
