CARICOM players wanted more from climate talks to ramp up the ambition to cut emissions and the associated impacts – from extreme weather events, such as hurricanes, to threats to food and water security, as well as the risks to public health.

"Establishing the #LossAndDamageFund is a big win for SIDS, but there's many disappointments. The fossil fuel lobby & #COP27 being held in a petro-state contributed to weakened decisions"

Director of energy and climate think tank @PowerShftAfrica:
Here is my #COP27 assessment.
First thing first, COP27 has done what no other COP has achieved & created a loss & damage fund to support the impacted communities of climate change. Vulnerable countries have been calling for since the 1992 Rio Earth Summit

The #LossAndDamageFund established at #COP27 is a big win for small island developing states & a nod to the vision & advocacy work of @AOSISChair. Yes, the Fund needs to be operationalized, but let's not minimize its significance.
Would be interested to hear @island_scholar ‘s take on the fund
Director #ClimateJustice @OpenSociety:
Replying to @YDagnet
The struggle to fully stand-up and resource this fund starts now.
The lack of collective ambition to keep global temp. increase below 1.5C is retrograde & will certainly reinforce the need for adequate resourcing. #COP27; @AOSISChair ; @LDCChairUNFCCC ; @OpenSociety

To our negotiators at COP27 –– thank you. Back home, we're ready to turn your victory on loss and damage into real wins for our most vulnerable citizens through our proven plan to deliver real protection, move communities, and support those whose livelihoods are most at-risk. – at Fiji
From the bottom of my heart, vinaka vakalevu to our tireless Pacific negotiators for securing a loss and damage fund at #COP27. You represent those who stand to lose the most to this crisis, and you have fought the hardest to see climate justice delivered.
At #COP27, "the one major area of progress was the creation of a loss and damage fund to compensate the ‘particularly vulnerable developing countries’ from climate impacts. But at the end of the day, this addresses the symptom without putting further attention to the cause."
#COP27 made important advances on loss and damage, but the refusal to call out fossil fuels and backtracking on 1.5° target has left a bitter taste ow.ly/lk6p50LJ9h0
