🐀💙💚 LARRATS 101 — LESSON #1: WHERE DID ALL THESE RATS COME FROM? Welcome to a little fandom history lesson. Because now that we’re officially a full-blown rat infestation, I think it’s time some people learned how this whole thing started. LMAOOO. First things first: What does LARRAT actually mean? It’s a combination of Larry and Rat. And no, it wasn’t exactly meant as a compliment. For years, antis used the term to mock Larries, calling us toxic, obsessive, delusional, and a whole bunch of other things we won’t bother repeating because, frankly, we haven’t got all day. 😂 But the rat story goes back even further. In 2015, Louis became the target of some pretty nasty comments about his appearance. Certain entertainment outlets went as far as calling him “the ugly one from One Direction,” comparing his face and size to those of a little rat. Yes, they even went after his height. Not that Louis is particularly short, but apparently common sense had taken a very long holiday. 🙄 And we’re talking about THIS MAN? THIS ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS HUMAN BEING? Seriously? Are we all looking at the same person, or should we start a fundraiser for prescription glasses? LMAOOO. And because apparently that wasn’t enough, in 2017, Australian radio host Ash London publicly mocked Louis’s appearance and facial hair, describing his beard as scruffy and unattractive. The backlash was massive. Louis responded on Twitter, and fans immediately rallied to defend him. #RespectLouis became a rallying cry against the insults and personal attacks directed at him. Because there’s a difference between having a laugh and humiliating someone over their appearance. And here’s where the story gets REALLY good. Over time, we Larries did what we do best: we took something that was supposed to insult us, flipped it on its head, and turned it into part of our identity. Oh, you’re calling us rats? PERFECT. 🐀 We claimed the name, added some sarcasm, a healthy dose of chaos, a ridiculous amount of humour, and, obviously, our favourite colours. And just like that, Larrat went from being a word meant to put us down to an inside joke and a badge of honour for so many of us. And LOOK AT US NOW. Making memes, designing T-shirts, creating little rat characters, and building an entire community around a word that was once supposed to offend us. WE’VE EVEN GOT MERCH NOW. LMAOOO. And just when you thought this story couldn’t get any more ridiculous… HARRY STYLES SHOWED UP DRESSED AS A RAT AT HARRYWEEN YESTERDAY. 🐀🤣 HARRY. STYLES. AS. A. RAT. After years of being called Larrats, years of rat jokes, memes, and recycled insults… now Harry himself has apparently joined the rat club? I don’t know about you, but at this point, the jokes are practically writing themselves. LMAOOOO. Moral of Lesson #1: Be careful what you call us, because we’re perfectly capable of turning your insults into merchandise. And remember, class: the rats didn’t disappear. They organised, went bluegreen, got themselves matching outfits… AND NOW EVEN HARRY’S DRESSED AS ONE. I’M A RAT.
