In 1993, Eric Hughes wrote A Cypherpunk’s Manifesto. One line from it has stayed with us: privacy is “the power to selectively reveal oneself to the world.” That’s the spirit we’re building 1993.forum in. Crypto can feel scattered and gatekept. The good conversations are spread across a hundred places, and a lot of them are hard to get into. We’d like to help bring the space together. 1993 is meant to be a place where you can do whatever you want. If you’re new, it’s somewhere to make friends, ask questions and learn. Someone ran a script that made 900+ fake accounts to hoard usernames and resell them. We cleared them and blocked automated scripts. All of those names are back for real people grab. Token-gated communities are live on 1993.forum. You can now make your own token-gated community. Create a community, tick “token holders only,” type the ticker and set how many coins it takes to get in. That’s it. Link your wallet once. It’s a signature, not a transaction, and nothing leaves your wallet. We read your balance on Solana. Hold enough and you’re in with one click. Copycat tickers can’t fake their way in. We check the token’s address, and the real $1993 is pinned at the top. Holdings are re-checked daily. Drop below the line and you get 48 hours’ notice. Security + server update on 1993.forum We now run on two servers. One holds accounts, rules and payments. Our own live server delivers every message. It keeps no logs and no IP addresses. It’s faster too: each message is sent once, straight to everyone in the room, instead of every browser asking over and over. Private rooms and DMs are end-to-end encrypted. Our servers only ever store scrambled text we can’t read. We never hold your wallet keys. Connecting a wallet only shares its public address, and every payment is signed in your own wallet.
