pls rt folks! at @neuromatch we have some funding from generous donors, but are looking to create a sustainable future for ALL our students regardless of means or geopolitics. we are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit eligible for federal & foundation donations, all tax deductible ❤️❤️🙏
Neuromatch Academy teaches thousands of students about neuroscience, deep learning, climate. We uniquely have export permit, ~1000 applicants per year from embargoed countries, e.g., Iran. We can not accept money, making us somewhat unsustainable and may force us to eventually reject students. Who knows someone who could help fund the participation of these students?

Is it possible to reverse engineer a nervous system? With @KordingLab and an epic of authors, we wrote an opinion piece that suggests the time is ripe (and also clarifies what we mean by "reverse engineering"). arxiv.org/abs/2308.06578 RT and let us know what you think!

"(Do not skip this)" is right. I knew what the literature said about sleep deprivation & let myself slip into <6 hours/night anyway. Kept justifying it until I realized half my comments were barely coherent, let alone intelligent. Sleep isn't just important, it's foundational.
Meanwhile the first thing Berkeley CS undergrads are shown:
