Amazing photos.
I was on the spot last Wednesday with an RAF Staff Ride from @JscscRaf.
It was today in 1918 that Lt David McLellan took his famous photograph of soldies of the 137th Brigade on the slope of the St. Quentin Canal, near Bellenglise, which they had crossed on 29 September in a remarkable feat of arms #FWW (© @I_W_M Q 9538) iwm.org.uk/collections/item/…

It’s amazing how part of an archive can transport you hundreds of miles as well as back in time by hundreds of years
Map of the assault on Badajoz, 6th April 1812.

Just visited the ‘Musée de L’Empéri’ in Salon de Provence which houses a large collection from @MuseeArmee.
I can’t remember a museum like it in terms of quantity of quality items on display from French Rev and Napoleonic Wars.
Fantastique!
Here is a preview, more to follow!
Exploring the costal town of Cassis in Provence today. 110 years (and 8 days) since the Royal Navy made a successful raid on the citadel and harbour (18 August 1813).
Boats under Sir John Sinclair then entered the harbour and destroyed one gunboat and one ‘tartan’ (small merchantman) and captured 2 gunboats and 24 small
merchantmen and 60 French were taken as POWs. British casualties were 4 killed, 16 wounded. Pics:
the harbour and entrance.
