Got an idea rattling around in my head for my music blog. Anybody have any leads on the origins of the artist's statement? Seems like there's not been a lot of scholarship on that front.
I'm open for musical commission work! I'm especially looking to do small commissions for teachers, because students deserve new music, too.
Well, well! It looks like my Warabe Uta arrangements for string orchestra has been picked up by the Oregon Mandolin Orchestra! I don't have a set date for the performance as of yet, but I think it should be happening this season? Or maybe in the fall. We'll see.
New blog idea will follow my compositional process. Starting with an 8-bar phrase, I'll work bit by bit until I have something around 80-160 or so. Each post, I'll write a few of my thoughts what challenges are present and how I address them. Could be fun!
I've frequently heard "Set goals! Make a five year plan!" as advice. It's good, but it's rarely followed up with the far more important "And here's how!"
Trying to get more into music this year. Already got some pings for potential commissions in the future. Fingers crossed, but in the meantime, time to send out for score calls...
Blogging away some more! This essay is on Seán Clancy's "Fourteen Minutes of Music on The Subject of Greeting Cards."

Teaching a 6th grader about practice habits, and I used the phrase "Whack-a-mole practice" for when you fix one mistake and another pops up, and she looked at me funny and I was like, "Oh no, does whack-a-mole still exist?"
I've read in a couple places that Takemitsu guest starred as a celebrity chef on TV, but I can't find any reference to which shows nor any clips of him doing that. Wikipedia.jp makes no reference to it, either. Anybody got any leads?
The second suite of Modal Melodies is up on YouTube! I'm also working to get the score of the first suite uploaded to my store. I'll keep you updated on that!

Back to blogging! This post outlines the broad strokes for a planned "Theory for Strings" book (books?). It's not a trivial undertaking, so I'll be at this topic a while. I'll still try to intersperse other topics in between, though.

Compositions on the docket: a set of variations on The Parting Glass (probably for intermediate students), a piece for cello and koto, something for unaccompanied cello.
