3 Years In. 745 Rhino Rewilded. 19 Landscapes. More than 550,000 Hectares. And Counting.
This World Rhino Day marks three years since African Parks took responsibility for approximately 2,000 southern white rhino and began an ambitious ten-year effort to rewild them into secure, well-managed protected areas across Africa.
Since then, 745 rhino have been moved into 19 recipient areas across four countries. Across these populations, 89 calves have been born. There have also been losses along the way.
Rewilding at this scale is complex. It means establishing rhino in different landscapes and environments, managing disease and security risks, learning from both successes and losses, and adapting as new information emerges.
And none of it happens alone. Governments, protected areas and conservation organisations are taking on the long-term responsibility of receiving and managing these rhino, working alongside African Parks to build resilient populations for the future.
Three years into Rhino Rewild, we are sharing what this work is teaching us about what it takes to move from rescue to rewilding at scale across Africa.

ISRAEL IS PREPARING TO SHOW THE WORLD FOOTAGE OF THE OCTOBER 7 MASSACRE.
It's about the 47-minute compilation of the IDF's Bearing Witness to the October 7th Massacre (in Hebrew, it's often referred to as "a horror film").
Israel is preparing to make the October 7th chronicle publicly available, which was shown only at closed sessions to journalists, diplomats, and politicians. Recording sessions were banned. It was not fully released to the public.
This is not a feature film or a reconstruction. It's a montage of raw footage: Hamas militants' cameras, surveillance cameras, video recorders, victims' phones, and rescue services.
The IDF is currently working on publication options. The idea was approved by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the IDF leadership.
The publication of the full 47-minute version is being discussed, either in its entirety or in three parts, approximately 15 minutes each, through Israeli diplomatic missions and social media.
And it's hard not to see the connection to what happened around the film NAZA.
The documentary film, which contains serious accusations against Israel's actions in Gaza, received a special prize from the Venice Film Festival jury and was met with a standing ovation. The IDF categorically denied the film's accusations and stated that a significant part of them are based on anonymous testimonies that are impossible to independently verify.
Exactly after the international uproar around NAZA, the question arose again: is it not time to show the world audience and the other documentary chronicle of this war - where it all began on the morning of October 7?
Until now, Israel refrained from mass distribution of these footage primarily out of respect for the feelings of the relatives of the deceased, survivors, and former hostages, many of whom personally experienced this horror.
But former hostage Liri Albag (a IDF observer who spent 477 days in captivity) sharply responded to NAZA director Yoval Avraham this week: on October 7, the terrorists did not "filter" anyone out. This reaction shows the mood of some families on the days of the scandal around NAZA.
Time passes. Denials, distortions of events, and attempts to rewrite the story of October 7 emerge.
The world watches NAZA and argues about systems and strikes. Let it watch and see where this war began. Footage shot by the terrorists themselves.
The memory of October 7 should not depend on which film is more convenient to show in Venice.
No comments. No political statements. No one's interpretation. It is time to show the world the original source.
