Solo founder 🦀building retail data infrastructure + other things

Just finished today’s 4 mile walk/rehearsal and my 60 second pitch is definitely getting more polish and I can even say the new sales 10 second thesis naturally to my wife when walking through the grocery store to explain why I’m taking pictures

I both love and hate how rehearsing during walks makes me deep thunk my product for two hours so then I also don’t huge the chores I want to get done done

Peanut Shopper is still built around grocery flyers. But the next layer is the harder one: What actually happened in the store? We avoided this for a while because the clean version wants API/POS access, retailer agreements, and more operational capacity. So now we’re taking the boots-on-the-ground path to close the gap first. Flyers show intent. Shelf data shows reality. Price, promo tags, cold placement, stock, competitors, zoning, and the in-store promo layer flyers miss. Half research, half sales, half correlating flyer data to real store conditions. Tonight’s 4 mile walk is pitch rehearsal for that. We’re pushing the agenda regardless of notoriety, bureaucracy, or funding stage.

Finished my daily 4 mile walk and added a set of 20 40lb curls And gotta say, rehearsing my pitches while walking made the walk 2-3 times harder but also made me take 20 mins longer, but fair trade off imo

Sometimes I wonder if I’m the only one who actually babysits ai commands and code to validate changes because I don’t trust its judgement I treat it like a fast moving team of juniors

Today is day 11 even though yesterday I took off for my birthday. On today’s walk I plan on talking to myself like a madman practicing my pitch while I walk since my breathing while walking is now stable. This is my founder pitch for accelerator videos as opposed to sales

It literally pains me taking this day off, I want to work a feels like I’m falling behind which is objectively untrue

I decided to be selfish today and just do nothing on my birthday.

I think I’ve contaminated my own X growth experiment. I was getting fairly consistent follower growth from ~50 targeted replies/day. Then I started mixing in lower-signal replies + way too much about my daily exercise experiment. Follower growth flattened and may have gone slightly negative. Problem is I changed too many variables at once, so I have no idea which input actually mattered: reply volume reply quality who I reply to original content posting time topic consistency At 151 followers, original posts still get a few 10s of impressions, so replies are effectively my discovery mechanism. Next test: fewer, more targeted/intelligible replies while holding the rest relatively constant. I’m also separating 3 daily logs from my normal 5-post quota: 2 exercise experiment posts: result + post-walk thought 1 work/build log 5 other original posts I do the entire walk without music like a psycho, so I might as well use the intrusive thoughts as experimental output. That gives me a cleaner baseline of 8 originals/day while I figure out whether reply quality, targeting, or volume is actually moving the needle.

Should I take shirts with holes like these to the cleaners to repair? Or does that look tacky? I do like the shirt

Day 9 complete 4.5 mile walk, I was reading that apparently I’m 20% until what is considered basic fitness 🤷‍♂️
14
Now starting my day 9 walk then doing my a16z second round thing when I get back, shower, clean, cleaners, nap, meeting, make pancakes, fold laundry, then walk to park with baby, and more work
17
Day 9 of doing 4.1 mile walks, going to finish this next load of laundry so I have socks then time for my walk. The current experiment is see if now I can jog a little further before asthma starts, which is not very far Also as a sad note I need to take two of my pants to the dry cleaners to get the crotch patched

Time for my day 8 4.1 mile walk🙃

It was 4.1 miles with <0.1 jogged, trying to a new thing of how long I can jog at the start before asthma

I’m on day three of not biting my nails, I think I’m also going to start cutting out the fridge cigarettes, maybe switch to tea or more coffee

Found another local grocery data gap I want to dig into: AR Supermarket, also listed as 아리라수퍼마켓 / Arirang Supermarket. They have stores in Garden Grove and Fullerton, but the public weekly-sales page looks stale. The main flyer I can find is from New Year’s, and the latest weekly flyer I can find is from December. That is exactly the infrastructure gap Peanut Shopper is being built around. A lot of independent and ethnic grocery stores still have messy promotion workflows: paper flyers, old website pages, Instagram/Facebook posts, in-store signs, and no clean structured history of what was promoted, where, when, and at what price. Next step: call or visit the stores figure out who owns weekly ads and updates see whether current promos exist somewhere offline test whether we can help host the flyer/catalog layer turn their items, prices, promos, and locations into structured data use that as a local pilot path Flyer data is only the first layer. The bigger opportunity is helping stores that are digitally underrepresented become easier to search, analyze, promote, and integrate into modern commerce without forcing them to replace how they already operate.
