The AI panic of 2026 is about making sure frontier models are closed source, proprietary and gatekeeped. AI labs want this to kill competition, while governments want this to limit power among private citizens.
We're used to thinking of open-source models as an unadulterated good. But in the case of AI, they can actually pose additional dangers, as @ReidHoffman and I got into at #CGI2026. I appreciated this nuanced discussion.

If you are not on at least one blacklist, you have not truly lived.
We should be able to anonymously sell compute from our home GPUs for AI training and receive crypto as payment. Who's building this?
Revolut was fished by a fake government email. Sure, that's bad.
But the worst thing is that it means that the government has access to all this information about you on demand. If the request was legitimate, we would never had heard of it, and the government would be sitting on that pile of data, spying on you, and losing it to a data breach later.
Did you get an email from @Revolut mentioning that your data has been leaked?
If so my condolences and ... well the trove of data in this case seems quite very bad.
Now imagine we find out that this is the most energy efficient way for a humanoid to run, and at the next Olympic all the runners run like that.
I could hear the regular beeping of the monitor, the hurried footsteps in the hallway and the clicking of the IV pump.
"I am afraid your mother's cancer has progressed and her current treatment is not working", the oncologist told me. "But there is a breakthrough treatment that we can try and the odds of curing her are above 85%. We need your ok to proceed since the sedative make her unable to consent."
- "Wow really? How soon can we start? What needs to be done?", I replied, hoping that I may get to be with her for another Christmas or, who knows, maybe more.
- "We need to take a sample of her cancer, analyze it with a computer, and the computer outputs a formula for a treatment unique to her cancer DNA. Late stage trials are completed and we can already use this technique on a large scale for cheaper than her chemo treatment."
My face turned white. I realized what was going on. She wouldn't make it to next Christmas.
- "Does it... Does it use AI?", I asked.
- "Yes of course that's why it can be so accurate and fast", the doctor said.
- "Then no, we cannot proceed. I am not risking humanity's future. This is wrong."
- "But sir, she may die within a few weeks. If we don't use this new treatment, all we can do now is ease her suffering!"
- "I am on the right side of history. I don't want humanity to live in a future where all the water is used up by datacenters own by Elon Musk and billionaires. I stand for what is right!"
I turned to my mother and kissed her forehead. "I love you, thanks for being a good mom to me, I'm sure you understand".
Some speak as if there was a mastermind that decides who gets to have influence over bitcoin. Influence is earned through economic relevance, hash power and such. Not by some value-driven adjudication from a higher authority. That is the whole point.

Unfortunately your story is that of most Bitcoiners since 2017.
Various ones were cast aside at various junctures for various reasons, but the conclusion is the same: Bitcoin is hijacked.
Take your time, find your way, but don't leave freedom money. You're one of the best real users, and there's too few of us still.
Lazarus may well be what will bring the end of the DPRK regime. Think about it. They are training people who:
-Have unrestricted access to the outside world and internet, and in some case must impersonate foreigners and their culture (as in the fake employees)
-Are deeply knowledgeable in the area of uncensorable/private money, personal privacy and covert operations
-Have to scam, lie and cheat regularly (which most people don't like to do) while not even personally benefiting from their wrongdoing.
What would you do in their place? Wouldn't you at least keep a bit of XMR/ZEC in a personal account? Perhaps encrypt your communications with your family and friends? If you do this in North Korea, you are now an insurgent. You have already crossed the line.
turns out training an elite financially-motivated hacker army and treating them like shit slaves has fucking consequences. ๐ณ

Trust me bro. I won't look at your secrets even if I can and they force me to or pay me to do it. I love you, just trust me ok? Why do you ask me to encrypt them? You don't trust me? I promise.

Yes, Telegram wonโt scan your private messages, no matter what banana-republic tricks the EU uses.
I often dream that I am attending army training while having quit the army (irl I quit the army a long long time ago). No one knows that I quit, that I am not being paid, and that I did not gave back my kit when I quit. I just show up and train unpaid and no one cares.

Not sure what you mean brah. I sold to a willing seller at a price. Prices could be higher and then I would be called a dumb ass. I just happened to call it right this time as it regards to my trading goals.

cypherpunk was never about making founders rich. it was about making tyranny obsolete. the grifters will cash out. the cowards will comply. cypherpunks will outlast all of them.
ethereum got flooded by fucking mercenaries pretending to be revolutionaries. everyone talks about decentralisation until there's money on the table, then suddenly compliance, surveillance, business opportunities, and extraction become pragmatic. most of this ecosystem does not give a shit about freedom. they care about pumps, fees, and turning users into fucking exit liquidity. cypherpunk was never about making founders rich. it was about making tyranny obsolete. the grifters will cash out. the cowards will comply. cypherpunks will outlast all of them. principles compound harder than capital. you don't have to believe me. you won't. because you'll be gone while i'm still here.

Aave LLC has filed an emergency motion to vacate a restraining notice served on Arbitrum DAO on May 1, 2026 that attempts to seize approximately $71 million in ETH belonging to victims of the April 18 exploit.
A thief does not gain lawful ownership of stolen property simply by taking it, and the law is clear on this. Those assets were recovered to be returned to users victimized in the April 18, 2026 exploit. Freezing them harms the very people this recovery effort is designed to protect.
Weโve asked the court for an expedited hearing and a temporary vacatur, and we are continuing to work alongside the Arbitrum community and DeFi United to make affected users whole.
