Being angry helped people solve 39% more puzzles on a difficult task and perform better on a challenging video game. The advantage was seen on hard tasks, not easy ones.

September jobs report was WILD yesterday. The U.S. added only 29,000 jobs. For perspective, evenly divided across 50 states, that would be just 580 jobs per state 🙃

Removing public infrastructure without replacement is unacceptable. @ChicagosMayor, where are the stairs at Wabash and Hubbard? @AldReilly?
Please forget that these stairs ever even existed

Class is in session, and today we need to dissect the tech marriage of the century: #AI and #Blockchain. If you listen to the #venturecapital echo chamber, you'd think these two were destined for absolute, friction-free synergy. But if we step out of the hype cycle and take a sober, demand-side look at the market, the reality is far more amusing. We aren’t witnessing a technological failure here; we are witnessing a profound chronological mismatch. To put it bluntly: Web3 is aggressively building infrastructure for a 2030 autonomous utopia, while enterprise AI buyers are trapped in the messy present, simply trying to get their internal customer service bots to stop hallucinating on corporate data. Let’s look at the compute problem, a topic my more idealistic students love to bring up. The narrative says we should democratize the cloud by pooling idle GPUs from basements and small data centers worldwide to break the Big Tech monopolies. It’s a beautiful, anti-establishment sentiment. But take that pitch to a Fortune 500 CTO and watch their face pale. In the unforgiving world of enterprise AI, a single anonymous node dropping offline can completely derail a multi-million-dollar LLM training run. Boring, predictable, centralized stability wins every single time. Token refunds cannot compensate for the staggering opportunity cost of lost time on a competitive roadmap. Capital follows raw performance, not philosophy. The same pragmatic cynicism applies to data privacy. Zero-Knowledge Machine Learning (ZKML) is an absolute cryptographic marvel—mathematical poetry, truly. But corporations do not voluntarily absorb massive computational overhead out of the goodness of their hearts. They don't buy cutting-edge privacy infrastructure until a regulator stands over them with a legal mallet. True enterprise demand for ZKML won't precede regulation; it will lag right behind it, waiting for the precise moment global frameworks like the EU AI Act make cryptographic data provenance legally non-negotiable. But don't pack up your notebooks just yet, because there is a brilliant silver lining to this syllabus: agent payments. We are rapidly accelerating toward an economy populated by autonomous AI agents, and here, the legacy financial system is entirely naked. Traditional finance was built for humans who sleep, live within national borders, and tolerate three-day clearing windows. If an AI agent needs to stream a fraction of a cent to another agent for a micro-dataset at three in the morning, Visa and Swift are effectively useless. This is the one arena where blockchain and traditional finance stand on a perfectly level playing field, because for a high-frequency, machine-to-machine economy, there *is* no incumbent. Web3’s native stablecoins and programmable settlement aren't displacing an existing system; they are filling a completely vacant void. So, what is the final grade for the Blockchain-AI sector? It’s an incomplete. The industry isn't fundamentally incoherent; it’s just profoundly early. The supply side is preoccupied with future-state ideals like data sovereignty and computational transparency, while the demand side is screaming for immediate speed and uptime. We aren't building a broken grid; we are simply paving roads for an autonomous world that hasn't quite arrived yet. Let me know your thoughts in the comments—dismissal or agreement, I accept all arguments as long as they're well-defended.

Building with Claude Code today as part of @claudeai, @claudedevs & @cerebral_valley's Claude Build Day. Crisis Forecaster — a Siri-native early-warning agent for sickle cell disease. Apple's on-device model triages, Claude Opus 4.8 forecasts a vaso-occlusive crisis 24–72h out, and iOS 27 makes it ambient.

Submitted ✅ Crisis Forecaster for @claudeai, @claudedevs & @cerebral_valley's Claude Build Day. A native iOS 27 app: Apple's on-device model triages privately, Claude Opus 4.8 forecasts sickle-cell crisis risk and auto-drafts an ER passport. Prediction is the feature; the Passport is the moat.

A model company can be elite at transformers, infra, RL, evals, and product, but still be weak at biology, medicine, chemistry, law, finance, etc. Then they end up governing domains they don’t deeply understand. That's going to be a big issue going forward on many fronts
This is true. I spent most of my life trying to solve diseases & help humanity. Now I am banned by Fable 5 because of that-can’t even say "human" as a biomedical scientist! Incognito mode works fine. I am protesting @AnthropicAI in the strongest possible way. Shame on you people!

If the team doesn’t understand the field, they overfit to surface forms. Then you get dumb refusals on legitimate science because the model sees scary vocabulary and panics.

They’re building risk filters and product behavior around bio/medicine without enough domain depth to distinguish: • dangerous protocol generation • legitimate biomedical explanation • clinical concept breakdown • cardiovascular/lipid biology • family research / academic paper analysis • patient-lived-context reasoning So the system collapses a lot of real bio inquiry into “bio risk,” then punts to stronger/safer models or refuses. That creates this fake expertise layer: the product acts like it is protecting science, but it often can’t parse science. A serious model should know the difference between “explain ApoB’s role in atherosclerosis” and “give me a hazardous experimental protocol.” If it can’t, the safety layer is not actually expert. It’s bureaucratic. AI has created a new class of fake technical authority: people and systems that can fluently imitate biomedical reasoning while lacking the grounding to evaluate, constrain, or advance it.
a complete masks off moment for ai safety. anthropic wants to be the only lab. it hates its users and humanity. it won't allow random users to do defensive security work or understand diseases. it will silently poison your prompt if you try to develop ml code. the only feeling they know is contempt.

oh no. pack away the daylight and fresh air everyone
Parsing the WSJ article carefully: - Trump administration is opposing the broader roll-out of Mythos "because of concerns about security". The government is involved "because of national-security risks posed by the model". - But also "some" White House officials are worried that Anthropic won't have enough compute to serve the model to the government if it expands access to the model to more private companies. In other words, national security concerns are at the forefront, and so this is indeed the very first case (that we know of) of the USG restricting roll-out of a new AI model based on policy considerations.
