The U.S. is a high gross income, low net living standard country. It pays high wages and then takes them back through privatized costs that other high-income countries socialize. The working class here is more indebted, more precarious, and more alone.

I’m feeling grateful but also kinda sad that I made Super Smash Land back in 2011. We might look back on that time as the golden age of fan projects. Vibe coding has kinda killed all the good vibes of fan games.

people are already mistaking this as using that vibecoded ai mashup software that 'made' minecraft in elden ring. it's very demoralizing.

i never entertained playing uma musume because i always got the impression that everyone i knew who did was getting something like this beamed into their heads at night

Oh, are there AIs that wash clothes? I just see people talking about email bullshit. I’ll take the AI that washes clothes, for sure

What is the end goal for these big companies lol we’re hemorrhaging talent at every level. Seniors forced to retire or start new careers, mid levels changing careers, less and less juniors entering the industry and even if they do here little to no junior jobs :(
Octo Zed retweeted
we talk about AI taking people’s jobs but what do I do when all my fucking vendors use AI to complete my tasks? then what’s the point of even paying them to do it

Yes, it’s shocking that the general public has not embraced a technology that, in the BEST-case scenario, will lead to universal unemployment, the abolition of art & music, and your children being unable to read.

I think I will leave the modding scene within a few years. AI has absolutely ruined it from me.
I know, the world changes, it's fine. But I'll give you my reasons anyway:
- the amount of mods per day has grown exponentially, between the junk, enough are good, and your carefully crafted mods get buried under.
- code bases are growing into monsters, I get a PR every day to fix some stuff on Luma and it's 60000 lines of changes to fix a basic bug.
- it genuinely feel like I'm not much needed anymore. I used to be one of the few ones able to mod old games (HDR, ambient occlusion, DLSS). Now many can slop something in no time, even if it's nowhere as good, many won't know.
- code licenses are completely meaningless now. One guy came on our forum, presented a slop but functional mod, I asked to clean up a few small things before merging and instead of doing so he asked AI do re program the whole thing from scratch to not use my framework.
- making mods has become massively easier, and that's nice, but also the pleasure of gradually unravelling a picture as you reverse engineer a game is gone.
All these things paint a bleak picture.
There's gonna be enough tinkerers to make mods even without me probably, so, no loss.

Probably going to get a bunch of hbox munchers attacking me but idgaf. It’s absolutely disgusting you took an amazing passion project that people have worked years on and released this vibe coded slop for probably a one off stream.

genuinely met so many trans women over the years who gaslit themselves into thinking they were into men while they were closeted because they felt queer but didn't understand that they were trans and then took years to undo that even after they started transitioning

once the power to create whatever game you want is in the hands of every individual, it'll become glaringly obvious (more than it already was, really) why many people shouldn't be trusted to even Think about getting into game development

AI for 99% of people is just three things:
1. Cheating on homework
2. Search engine
3. Slop
That's it. The programmers live in a different universe where AI is integrated into literally every part of their lives. To everyone else it just made everything suck.
This is my thesis: no one uses AI. I repeat, absolutely no one. We live in a bubble.
Even among my friends who pay for it, when I ask them to open ChatGPT and show me their queries, it’s the same handful of basic things.
Most don’t even know they can upload a photo and ask questions about it. Connecting Gmail so an agent can read and send emails blows their minds. An agent opening a browser and checking them into a flight? They’ve never even heard of it.
The massive challenge right now is adoption, and then getting people who already signed up to actually use what they’re paying for. Most have absolutely zero clue what’s possible.
Imagine the compute shortage when everyone starts using AI like the top 1% of users do today.
