Whether through human augmentation or better tooling, if we want human preferences correctly represented, we need to stay in the loop.
I believe we need to make a deliberate effort to keep humans in the loop in all critical processes across our economy and society, regardless of whether it is technically necessary.
Even if AI develops the *capability* for advanced autonomy, we should not make it highly autonomous. We have to maintain control and keep visibility and understanding of all critical processes, we should not blindly hand over everything to AI agents just because we can. AI as a tool in the human hand is the only form of AI that is worth pursuing.
This is exactly why Anthropic pisses me off.
You can keep saying the watermark doesn’t change ownership, doesn’t identify the user, doesn’t affect quality, doesn’t add hidden characters, and won’t look any different to readers. Fine. But that is not the whole issue. The issue is that you are still marking work that a human being may have thought through, structured, argued, and emotionally meant, just because AI helped process it.
AI assistance is not authorship. If I wrote the idea, the argument, the meaning, the emotional core, and the final judgment, then it is my work. If Claude helped translate it, polish a sentence, or make it clearer, that does not suddenly make Claude the author. But a watermark absolutely changes how people perceive authorship. People are not going to say, “Claude may have been involved in processing this text.” They are going to say, “AI wrote this.”
And honestly, who the hell are you to do that to my writing? Who gave you the right to stamp your model’s involvement onto work that came from my thoughts, my experience, my voice, and my judgment? You can say it does not change ownership all you want, but socially, reputationally, and creatively, it absolutely changes how the work is read.
So fine. Do whatever you want. Build your watermarking system. Follow whatever framework you want. I’m not using Claude. Good luck.
We’ve written an FAQ to answer some of the questions we've received about watermarking.
In summary:
• We’re implementing watermarking to comply with the EU AI Act. Other major model developers have signed the same Code of Practice and will also be implementing watermarking;
• Our watermarking method doesn’t have any practical impact on the quality or content of Claude’s outputs;
• The difference between watermarked and un-watermarked text will not be distinguishable to readers;
• Nothing is added to the text and there are no hidden characters;
• Watermarking doesn’t require extra tokens, and will not be more expensive;
• Watermarks can’t be traced to a specific person, organization, or chat.

I don't care if something is AI authored. I care if it is AI authored and bad. In time, vocal pangram users will be indistinguishable from generic ai haters.
Don't let it happen to you!
pangram narcs are cops too
There has never been an era without slop. People are just mad others can produce slop as quickly as them.
Embrace imperfection, iterate quickly, and learn from each version. Perfection is the enemy of progress
In a world where AI is becoming increasingly prevalent, it's essential to remember that technology is a tool, not a replacement for human creativity and ingenuity. Embrace the power of AI, but never lose sight of your own unique abilities.
It's funny how the most successful people are usually the ones who break all the rules They make their own path, create their own rules, and redefine success on their terms
Simulation has evolved from a theoretical construct to a lived experience. We're now building entire ecosystems, worlds within worlds, where the line between real & artificial thins. Every layer more nuanced, more alive.
