By Leslie Stahl’s logic, it’s wrong to require air travelers in America to go through TSA screening because (1) very few air travelers carry out terrorist acts (indeed, “the numbers are tiny”), and (2) mandatory TSA screening tends to “sow distrust” in the safety of air travel.
“There are people who feel that the point is to sow distrust about the whole election system. There are very few people who are noncitizens who end up voting very few. Very few. And so therefore what's the purpose?” 60 Minutes asks Harmeet Dhillon, who heads the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division. “The point is actually the opposite of what you were saying. It's not to sow distrust. The distrust is there,” says Dhillon. “And so all of these kinds of crimes are being prosecuted now for the first time really in volume.” State audits have shown that noncitizen voting is extremely rare, though it does happen. cbsn.ws/4z7X60k

Erin Piacenti was stabbed and killed in Times Square on her first day back from maternity leave, and the system failed everyone involved.  As your next Attorney General, I will launch an Office of Civil Commitment to get severely mentally ill people off the streets and into treatment.

A 17-year-old boy was punched inside his high school classroom, ran into the hallway and moments later went over a FOURTH-FLOOR railing to his death. Now his family says what happened before that horrifying video began is just as important. They say Xavier had been bullied for YEARS. Xavier Nungaray was a senior at Benjamin Franklin High School in Los Angeles when a confrontation broke out Wednesday. Video circulating from inside the school shows a teacher trying to intervene before another student strikes Xavier. The Los Angeles Times reports another video shows the attacker shouting racial slurs. A student who witnessed the confrontation told ABC7 the other boy kept throwing punches while Xavier wasn't fighting back. Xavier got up, ran from the classroom and, moments later, went over a fourth-floor railing. He was rushed to a hospital, where he died. Police are still investigating exactly what happened and say they have found no evidence of foul play in his death. But Xavier's family says this wasn't the first time he had been bullied. His stepmother says he had endured bullying throughout high school but was afraid to report it because he feared HE would be the one who got punished. His aunt says it became so bad that Xavier wanted to change schools. And this is where I don't want the horrifying final moments of his life to erase the 17 years that came before them. A classmate who had known Xavier since SECOND GRADE remembers a funny kid who loved laughing at everyone else's jokes. She says he was the kind of friend who would be there when you needed him and seemed to always have a smile. Hundreds of people have now gathered outside his school, surrounding his pictures with flowers and candles. His family is preparing to bury him. And parents who send their own children through school doors every morning believing they'll be safe are left with some incredibly difficult questions about what happened here. Xavier's family believes the bullying he endured matters, while investigators are still working to determine the circumstances surrounding his death. So rather than pretending we already know every answer, maybe we should ask a question that could matter for the NEXT child: If a kid is being bullied but is too afraid to tell an adult because he thinks HE might get in trouble, how are parents and teachers supposed to recognize it before something terrible happens? Please share condolences and prayers for Xavier's family here. His life mattered. RIP.

Former abortionist Abby Johnson on Lindsay Clancy: "We have become extraordinarily practiced at looking at a dead child and asking first what his or her mother was going through. And abortion taught us how to do that. For decades, the defense of abortion has depended on shifting the moral center of the story away from the human being who dies and toward the human being experiencing the crisis. The mother’s suffering becomes the justification. But suffering does not make killing good,” Johnson wrote.... Johnson argued that culture has spent more than 50 years training itself to begin with a mother’s fear, financial stress, lack of support or depression until the child’s humanity nearly disappears—first in abortion and now in cases like this one."

Prince William translated: you’ve all become so invested in remaining the main characters that you’ve somehow stopped noticing the actual children in front of you. George is 13. Thirteen. The age Harry is perpetually allowed to remain in your story, forever the little boy whose trauma explains everything, while an actual 13-year-old is being served up to the bullies in his second week of big school. Because the moment you recognise George as a 13-year-old child, rather than another supporting character in the Forever Harry Show, you have to acknowledge something inconvenient: time has passed. And that is the real narcissism of it. Everyone is still determined to be the protagonist. George is 13. Harry is not. Neither are you. The story did not stop in 1997. You just never stopped telling it as though it did.
