He wrote "You're My Best Friend" for her the year they married. She raised six children while he toured the world with Queen. Fifty years later — they're still in the same house in Putney. Veronica Tetzlaff is the most private person in rock history.
On March 26th, 1971 — John Deacon walked into a college disco in London.
He had joined Queen just two months earlier. Across the room was a young woman named Veronica Tetzlaff — born in Sheffield, of Polish ancestry, studying at the Maria Assumpta Teacher Training College.
They met. They started dating.
Veronica was pursuing a teacher training course in Kensington. After a few years of dating — they married on January 18th, 1975. Veronica was already pregnant at the time of the wedding.
Queen was rising. World tours were starting. Bohemian Rhapsody was coming.
A friend who knew Veronica well said — "She didn't wear any makeup and wore fairly plain clothes. She is a lovely person, completely unpretentious. I've got the impression down the years that their children are the most important things to her."
Together they had six children — Robert in 1975, Michael in 1978, Laura in 1979, Joshua in 1983, Luke in 1992, and Cameron in 1993.
While John played bass on some of the greatest records in history — Veronica raised their family quietly. No interviews. No premieres. No fame.
She chose to live a quiet life away from public attention to raise their children — a distinction she has maintained for over fifty years.
Today — John and Veronica still live together in Putney, South West London.
John wrote "You're My Best Friend" for her in 1975 — the same year they married.
Fifty years later — the song still plays on radio stations worldwide.
And the woman it was written for has never once spoken about it publicly.
Some love stories don't need an audience.

She didn’t beg or argue. Julia Roberts simply slid a small yellow Post-it across the desk. It said “Please say yes.”
It was 1989. Roberts was 21. Hollywood had noticed her, but she was not yet a star. Richard Gere was. He had already turned the script down. The character—a wealthy businessman in an expensive suit—felt cold and empty to him.
Director Garry Marshall still believed in the story and in the young actress he wanted opposite Gere, so he arranged a meeting.
They sat across from each other and, within minutes, were laughing like old friends. Then the phone rang. It was Marshall, checking in.
While Gere listened, Roberts wrote the note and pushed it toward him. He looked at it, looked at her, and told Marshall he was in.
Almost no one knew the film had not started as a love story. The original script, titled 3000, was dark and bitter. In the ending, the businessman shoved the woman out of his car and drove away.
When Disney’s Touchstone Pictures acquired it, Marshall reshaped it into something warmer.
On set, moments kept arriving that were not in the script. Gere sat at a piano and played music he had written himself; the cold businessman suddenly had a private life.
During the necklace scene, Marshall suggested Gere snap the box shut on Roberts’s fingers. She burst out laughing. They kept the take.
Even the red gown nearly didn’t happen. Some wanted black. Costume designer Marilyn Vance refused.
Pretty Woman opened on March 23, 1990. It cost roughly $14 million and earned more than $463 million worldwide.
Roberts received an Oscar nomination and won a Golden Globe. A generation fell for that smile. Twenty-five years later, at a cast reunion, Gere finally told the story of the little yellow note.
A film written to end in rejection became one of the most beloved romantic comedies ever made, because a 21-year-old actress was willing to write down what she hoped for.🌹

🚨Labour MP Warns Burnham: Don’t Tear Britain Apart Over Brexit
A senior Labour backbencher has publicly cautioned Prime Minister Andy Burnham against floating a return to EU freedom of movement. Melanie Onn, MP for the heavily Leave-voting Great Grimsby and Cleethorpes, called it a “big trust issue” that risks reopening deep national divisions. Labour’s 2024 manifesto explicitly ruled out single market, customs union or free movement membership. Onn insists any shift must first face a full party debate and manifesto commitment, warning that casually reopening borders would undermine the very voter trust Labour rebuilt in Red Wall seats after 2019. Limited youth schemes are one thing; a full reversal is another.

Willow is an older whippet around 9yrs & 13kg from China.
She was rescued from the meat trade via @CandyCaneRescue who asked us to help as she has a few health issues and that could not be fixed in China.
Willow is extremely loving and sweet 🥰
So far she’s had a CT scan, x ray, blood tests and her eyes checked.
She had an old break in the leg, nothing to be done.
She’s going blind. Will see eye specialist next.
The CT scan was not entirely conclusive regarding the lump on nose but we are waiting to hear more but looks like a vascular malformation.
Willow needs a loving quiet home. She’s had a rubbish life… let’s share and change that 🙏🏻❤️
Of course any adopter will be supported with any vets bills going forward.
Plz share Willow 🙏🏻❤️

🚨Chancellor’s Budget Relies on Unlikely Future Cuts, Expert Says
Chancellor John Healey’s Budget only meets the government’s money rules by assuming big spending cuts to areas like police and prisons starting in 2028. Former Institute for Fiscal Studies boss Paul Johnson called these plans “made up” and unrealistic. Rising oil and gas prices from the Iran conflict have already reduced the safety buffer to £15 billion and made the official forecasts outdated. This is fiscal fantasy dressed up as prudence—the public will pay the price when the numbers collapse.

Sir Ian McKellen pays tribute to the late Patrick Stewart:
“Before everything else, Patrick was defined by being born and bred in Yorkshire, the proud county in the north of England which he loved to the end. You could hear it in his accented voice and in the stern honesty with which he told you what he thought and felt. Yorkshiremen have no truck with half-truths or avoidance of big issues. He wore his heart on his sleeve, which made him a man to rely on, to admire and in my case, love.
We first met as ambitious young actors with the Royal Shakespeare Company half a century ago but we weren't in the same productions. My first strong memory was a few years later, meeting him in the street in central London when he told me about an offer to take over a leading part in 'Star Trek'. “But Patrick think of your stage career in the UK. Do you really want to risk-getting lost in Hollywood for years and years?".
Well, he took the risk and thank goodness for us all that he did for not just his devoted Trekkies but film and theatre audiences, who marvelled at his using international celebrity to star in a string of cinema successes ('X-Men' of course) and in great classical plays by Shakespeare, Ibsen, Arthur Miller, Peter Shaffer, Pinter and Beckett at Stratford-upon-Avon, in London's West End and on Broadway.
America was his adopted home, where he met his adored Sunny who has cared for him through sickness and health, through thick and thin. But he never forsook his origins: and the proudest achievement of the most respected and beloved actor of his generation on either side of the Atlantic, was his appointment as Chancellor of Huddersfield University in Yorkshire.”

🦊 A kind dog walker spotted this poor fox caught in a wire fence & called Tiggywinkles for help.
We discovered wire tightly embedded between his toes, causing a painful wound.
Sadly, a toe had to be amputated but he should still be able to balance & get around once healed. 💚

At 65 Michael J. Fox shared a wish after living with Parkinson’s disease for 35 years. “I’d like to just not wake up one day. That’d be really cool. I don’t want it to be dramatic.” He wasn’t saying he wanted to give up on life. He was talking about the kind of ending he hoped for.
Falls have already taken a serious toll on his body. He has broken his elbow, hand, arms, shoulder and cheekbone. One injury required a plate in his face. These weren’t accidents from movie stunts. They were ordinary moments that became risky because his body no longer always did what he wanted it to do.
Fox was only 29 in 1991, newly married to actress Tracy Pollan, when doctors diagnosed him with early-onset Parkinson’s. For seven years he kept his diagnosis private. In 1998 he finally told the public. Tracy had married him in 1988. Together they built a family that eventually included their son Sam, twins Aquinnah and Schuyler, and their youngest daughter Esmé.
In 2018 Fox underwent surgery to remove a benign tumor from his spine. The operation affected his ability to walk. More falls followed. His 2023 documentary *Still* showed viewers the bruises on his face. Even his beloved guitar became a reminder of what Parkinson’s had taken from him.
Yet not every memory was filled with pain. In one moment he recalled standing with Tracy at a Vampire Weekend concert. As the band played “Harmony Hall,” Tracy danced beside him. Looking back he said, “I mean, there’s still a lot of people I love and a lot of people who love me, so where am I going?”
During another conversation in 2023 he explained, “And if you can find something to be grateful for, then you can find something to look forward to, and you carry on.” While discussing death and the possibility of a peaceful ending, Fox was also promoting his book *Future Boy* and preparing to return to television through *Shrinking*.
For now Michael J. Fox is still here, still surrounded by people he loves, and still making plans for tomorrow.

🚨Ministers Gagged on EU Reset Costs as Options Stay Wide Open
Prime Minister Andy Burnham has instructed ministers not to advocate specific outcomes or speculate on results while the government explores a closer long-term UK-EU relationship. With a summit set for 20 November on food standards, emissions trading and youth mobility, the instruction keeps details of potential financial contributions, regulatory alignment or trade adjustments under wraps. Critics, including veteran Brexiteer John Redwood, brand this a recipe for quiet concessions that could reimpose EU-style costs and rules—leaving every “sell-out” path open while silencing debate on the price.
