Western Kentucky University broke ground today on The Southern Gateway, the first phase of Elevate WKU, a multi-year initiative to transform student housing and create modern, student-centered living environments across the Hill.
The roughly 1,000-bed residential complex replaces Hugh Poland and Douglas Keen Halls, two of WKU’s oldest residence halls, on the same site.

The only thing that can make a @WKUVolleyball game even better is guests from @BGISD and @WarrenCoSchools. Local elementary and middle school students wore red and were LOUD for the Tops! This was the perfect way to start an exciting weekend at WKU!

Outside of the classroom, Rick likes to play inline hockey or Texas Hold Em poker. Fun fact, he's a lifelong athlete. In high school, he was a football player and wrestler, and he broke the school record for most QB sacks in a season!

Our final spotlight in honor of World Teachers' Day is Madi Chandler, a senior Elementary and Special Education major from Newburgh, IN!
I want to be a teacher because I’ve grown up seeing the impact a teacher can have through my mom, who has been teaching for 27 years. Seeing how deeply she cares about her students and the lasting impression she leaves on them has inspired me to start a career in education.
WKU has prepared me for all aspects of my future in education. My professors have not only taught me what it means to be a good educator, but have also encouraged me, challenged me, and helped me grow into the teacher I want to become.
