After fifteen vintages at Porseleinberg, Callie Louw has launched Sonkop in the Swartland's Joubertskloof. @TimJamesGrape visited for @Winemag.
The farm runs to 130 hectares at 400 metres, about 20 in production, including Chenin planted in the 1980s. The plan is a Shiraz-led red and a white built on the farm's old Chenin. The 2026 vintage was made at Vondeling while the cellar catches up.
The winemaker who made Porseleinberg's reputation has gone looking for the next one. Which other Swartland names are quietly doing the same?
