Mayors will get new powers over how water companies are run under new “regional water councils”.
It won't resolve the crisis.
Water will remain privatised, companies want profits, pay dividends, fleece customers.
Let companies go bankrupt, nationalise

Thames Water's shareholders have walked away. It's being propped up by US hedge funds who REALLY don't care about its 16 million customers.
The government needs to intervene, put it into Special Administration, then take it into public ownership.

I warned the Office for Environmental Protection that polluters were paying cash to trash nature and potentially breaching the law.
The @OfficeforEP has echoed my concerns that the first scheme under the new Planning Act risks worse outcomes for nature.
This must not go ahead.

Yorkshire Water CEO to leave after the lowest rating by the Environment Agency.
Attention diverting gesture.
YW will still dump sewage, lose water to leaks, fleece customers.
No exec will be prosecuted, licence won't be revoked.
Need real change.

It's as true today as it was 150 years ago: private companies & public services don't mix, because the private sector will ALWAYS put profits before people.
Andy Burnham must take back assets for the British public by allowing failing private companies to go bust.

In those 4 and a half years Nicola Shaw was paid over £3 million including £1.3 million which was paid via an offshore company.

Almost 90% of England's water companies are still acting illegally, still dumping huge amounts of sewage into our environment.
“People are sick of excuses,” screams Dame Angela Eagle. We've heard it all before and yet nothing, nothing changes.
One interesting note "The UK is one of only two countries in the world where the provision of water is fully privatised. The other is Chile, where water privatisation was imposed in the 1980s by a military dictatorship." Hmm? 🤔

The Conservative MP for Windsor Jack Rankin says Thames Water has failed - what is Andy Burnham waiting for?
Thames Water’s creditors have a deadline today. They need to decide whether to hand over a £2.4 billion loan to keep the utility afloat for another 12 months.
Today we're presenting a petition with 30,000 signatures calling on Andy Burnham and Ofwat to block the bailout.
Their credit rating was downgraded on Monday. They're a liability. Let them go bust!

"Water bills face £40 hike if sector is downgraded, industry chief warns."
Yet more nonsense from the Ministry of Truth that is the water industry lobbying arm. @MarkKleinmanSky
Over the next 5 years water companies will spend £104 billion. Just £14 billion of that money is coming from shareholders but oh wait, shareholders are then taking £13 billion back again by way of dividends leaving a total of £91 billion that's actually getting invested.
Guess who's funding £90 billion of that, yes, 99% of the so called total investment? Yep you, the bill payer, not the shareholders, not the bond market, you.
Ever get the feeling you've been cheated?
Another thing for the @CommonsEFRA committee to ask the lobbyists this morning.

This is what we've come to.
A retired couple had to spend £1m of their own money taking both the @EnvAgency and @NaturalEngland to the High Court simply to force both of these charlatans to do their job, safeguard one of our nation's most legally heavily protected bits of countryside.
And the environment charities does what exactly?

Just like you and I commercial companies have credit ratings.
S&P, one of the big global corporate credit rating agencies have just downgraded Thames Water's rating to CCC-.
Meaning? Get your money the hell out of there, if you invest this company highly likely you're gonna loose it. Run like the wind bullseye.
Meanwhile 15 million customers are trapped with nowhere to run.

Well done Andy Burnham @andyburnham
There are ultimately just two answers to Thames Water, put the company into Special Administration and restructure - refinance it or give in to the demands of the New York vulture capitalists exposing tax payers and bill payers to yet more decades of exploitation.
The latter of course is unacceptable.

Can't afford to leave the privatised water scam?

Thames Water is due to run out of money (again) over the next few weeks. A year and a half ago it was given a £3 billion bailout now it's asking for another £2.4 billion.
