The answer to that all impawtant question; why do cats stare at walls. This article explains that we have heard a sound coming from that direction or perhaps we've seen a speck of dust or a tiny insect that hoomans can't hear or see. timesofindia.indiatimes.com/…

When the first apple tree looked skyward and wished for its own star to cherish, the orchard fairy promised one if it worked hard. The tree toiled all year, and in #autumn was rewarded with stars at the heart of its fruit, to cradle the seeds of future trees. #FolkloreThursday

Bright and early and the Street Mugger has reported for breakfast. 🧡🐈 No pleasantries. No small talk. Straight down to business. He absolutely gulped his gravy jelly down like a tiny orange Hoover.

The Himalayan glaciers are melting 65% faster than a decade ago, pushing the entire mountain ecosystem toward an irreversible tipping point. In Himachal Pradesh alone, high-altitude glacial lakes have surged by 525% since 1990, leaving dozens highly vulnerable to catastrophic outburst floods. This rapid thaw is being heavily accelerated by black carbon soot blowing up from the plains and localized heat islands caused by expanding mountain tourism and heavy infrastructure. While the melting ice is temporarily swelling regional rivers, hydrologists warn the region will hit peak water by mid-century, triggering a severe long-term freshwater crisis for the 1.6 billion people downstream who rely on these glaciers for survival.

Fukuroda Falls in Ibaraki, Japan, is one of the country’s Three Great Waterfalls. The 120-metre waterfall tumbles down four huge rocky tiers, surrounded by lush greenery in summer and spectacular autumn colours. In winter, the falls can freeze into a massive wall of ice.

Night night, sweet dreamies You will never know all the moments when your kindness mattered. The smile someone needed. The message that arrived at just the right time. The little thing you did that you’ve already forgotten, but they haven’t.

This is seriously frightening. A super El Niño is strengthening in the Pacific and could become one of the strongest ever recorded. NOAA says there is more than a 90% chance of a very strong event this autumn and winter. A new Climate Impact Lab report estimates that the extra heat associated with this El Niño could contribute to 451,000 additional deaths. The researchers also warn of increased risks from drought, wildfires, flooding and food insecurity. And this is happening on top of a planet that is already warming.

60.2% of Bornean orangutan habitat has been destroyed by wildfires in just three months. Yes, you read that correctly. 60.2%!!!!!!! Over 25 million hectares wiped out by a preventable mix of severe drought and corporate greed. We are letting it happen. We have failed.

The final day of the 1968 Oval Test, best remembered for rain, Derek Underwood, and a gripping finale. I am not that familiar with this footage, narrated by John Arlott. And in days of no helmets or any other protection, some almost suicidal close fielding and amazing catching

Published in The Auburn Times (Auburn KY) on November 26th, 1948... A brief item buried in the pages of The Auburn Times in November 1948 captured a small but memorable domestic dispute from Brighton. According to the report, a local husband successfully obtained a divorce after his wife refused to part with the 30 cats she kept in their home. When he pleaded with her to reduce the number of animals, she reportedly answered that her affection for the cats outweighed her affection for him, a remark that ended up sealing the marriage’s fate in court. Stories like this were not uncommon in mid-20th-century newspapers, which frequently printed short human-interest items from abroad to fill small spaces in the paper. At the time, British divorce law still required a specific legal ground such as cruelty, abandonment, or unreasonable behavior, meaning unusual household circumstances, like extreme animal hoarding, could be cited as evidence of marital breakdown. Britain’s divorce laws were so restrictive in the 1940s that couples often had to present dramatic or unusual claims in court to prove “fault,” a system that wasn’t replaced until the Divorce Reform Act 1969 allowed marriages to end based simply on irretrievable breakdown. #archaeohistories
