*wades into CC drama when I should probably know better* It’s interesting people automatically assume Carter’s dirty play reflects some widespread animus with CC, and not Carter’s general inability to control her emotions. She’s had this problem for years and has been suspended from teams for it! Was it a dirty play? No doubt. But it wasn’t a random attack based on some kind of vague jealousy. It was an overreaction to chirpy basketball bc Carter is an overreactor! The issue I think Black women have had (myself now too) is the choice to cling to widespread generalizations and largely antiblack, sexist stereotypes (these “jealous bitter thugs” vs “damsel in distress”) to characterize the entire league instead of thinking about who these players are individually.

A couple of days ago, I met some of the students who were arrested at the Emory encampment. They were hosting a vigil in Atlanta against genocide, and I was blown away.
