You do not have to start a foundation or a non-profit to showcase that your small business is (also) in the impact race.
As we mark World Sustainability Day today, Iโm reminded of an impact coaching session that I had with a Nigerian-based cosmetic business. They're doing incredibly well, and are female founders with an unconscious gender and youth lens value chain bias, which is incredible. However, their understanding of impact was driven through solely on the knowledge of charities or philanthropy and donations, which was unfortunate to the core of impactโs nuance. And it being a cosmetic company, their focus was strictly on the "vanity" metrics of skincare, and not the expanded impact of their objective through their operations and systems.
I find it so interesting that only certain sectors are considered to be impactful through their core operations, but others have to extend an arm and a leg to prove (to themselves and industry, stakeholders) that they're impactful.
Fortunately, this is incredibly untrue.
Impact is whatโs baked in the core of your business, from the gender composition of the team, to the diversity of your value chain and even the integrity measures at play.
This is part and parcel of why I created @ESGforSMEs , โ a micro podcast engaging in conversations with greener pastures, consequential to illuminating the utility of ESG for SMEs. We are two seasons in, and currently taking you back to the basics with ESG for SMEs from A - Z where over 26 episodes will offer you 26 opportunities to optimize the utility of ESG for your SME with ESG concepts and actionable insights tailored for small businesses - one letter at a time!

Overview:
The Township Entrepreneurs Guide to
GET THINGS DONEย
This a book that comes straight from my heart and experience, crafted to empower township entrepreneurs across South Africa. Over the years, Bulelani Balabala has walked the journey of entrepreneurship, learning, failing, growing and most importantly creating multiple successful business from eKasi. The book was inspired by the challenges faced by township entrepreneurs operating eKasi at a micro and small scale, this data was gathered through Township Entrepreneurs Alliance (TEA).
This is more than just a book itโs a call to action for everyone who believes in the future of South Africaโs township economy.
