For 46 years, the Staggers Rail Act has helped foster investment, innovation and competition across freight rail. That legacy continues today as we invest nearly $10 million every day to deliver safe, reliable service and work to create America's first transcontinental railroad, connecting more markets with single-line service and expanding opportunities for customers.
46 years ago, the #StaggersAct modernized freight rail, showing that smart policy drives investment, innovation, and growth. As we look to the future, its legacy reminds us: regulation should enable progress. Watch Harley discuss what Staggers means for rail today!
From helping build America to transporting the equipment that helps defend it, Union Pacific plays a vital role in keeping the nation moving. We recently executed one of the largest military movements by rail, supporting a full Army division of approximately 12,000 soldiers. Community and industry leaders marked the investment that expands U.S. oilseed processing capacity and creates new opportunities for American farmers. "The rail industry's real competition is on the highway."
Speaking at the North East Association of Rail Shippers (@NEARS_ORG) conference, Kenny Rocker, executive vice president-Marketing and Sales for Union Pacific, highlighted how the proposed Union Pacific-@nscorp combination will create a seamless coast-to-coast network, removing the 24-to-48-hour interchange delays customers experience today and making rail a more competitive option for freight movement.
He also underscored a key fact often missing from the discussion: rail carries just 27% of U.S. freight ton-miles. The opportunity is not taking traffic from other railroads. It's winning freight from trucks by delivering faster, more reliable service.
