Spoke to NPR about why the "AI agents going rogue" narrative misses the actual threats AI is posing: environmental, military, social, etc. Also: why the "look how powerful the AI is" plays into the hands of the AI companies. npr.org/2026/09/13/nx-s1-596…
Rather excited about this 💫 From January onwards, I will start a five year research project investigating how AI is altering the nature and features of authoritarianism.
More info about the project, and team hiring plans, coming soon.
Congratulations to @ThomasDekeyser, who has received an @ERC_Research ERC Starting Grant to support his research studying the close connections between AI and authoritarian politics.

@ThomasDekeyser shows how people have long recognized and resisted the machine as a violent, sometimes deadly force.

Interview with @libe on techno-negativity, moving beyond reformism, and imagining new tech politics. With thanks to @NastasiaHdj for the conversation.

Really enjoyed this conversation with @parismarx for his podcast, Tech Won't Save Us. We discuss abolitionism, Luddism, (post)humanism, 1980s computer bombers, and the need to think tech politics beyond the traps of reformism or accelerationism.

I have five left-over copies of TECHNO-NEGATIVE that I'd like to hand out to UK-based early career / PhD students who are interested in reading the book.
Drop a comment here if that's you and I'll randomly pick 5 people from here and the other places where I'm posting this.
Really not convinced by the argument that's surfacing that celebrates AI for its presumed inhumanism (and denounces anti-AI as reactionary humanism). I see AI as the extension & culmination of an increasingly violent humanism. Currently writing on this, but some early ideas: 1/4
Tech is often not the emancipatory 'blurring' of the human & the nonhuman celebrated by posthumanists, but the introduction of new, more violent demarcations of the human from its presumed others. i.e. dismantling the liberal human subject only to re-assert it more hideously. 4/4
Anyway, read Sylvia Wynter, folks.

As the academic whose book is cited multiple times in this article, I want to make it clear: the data center revolt is great and we need more of it. (Getting a little sick of journalists purposefully misreading my arguments)
The data center revolt is a symptom of our political failure on AI. vox.com/future-perfect/49035…
