It deeply saddens us to deliver this news. Dr. Aquil Basheer was more than a pioneer- he was a pillar to our movement. A former Black Panther, an international commander who structured human engagement for justice & a visionary who led thousands of frontline practitioners across
the world. Above all, he was a devoted family man whose strength, compassion, and integrity guided everything he did.
"Don't judge the possibilities of what can be based on circumstances." — Dr. Aquil Basheer
🚨 Tomorrow!
The 2025 Community Safety Leadership Awards are happening at Los Angeles Southwest College.
Honoring Dr. Aquil Basheer, Aqeela Sherrills, and Captain Robert Hawkins for their life-saving impact in community-based public safety.

Did you know? Most violent conflicts don’t start with weapons, they start with missed warning signs. At The BUILD Program, our work is about catching those signs early and applying intervention skills that save lives. This isn’t reaction. This is prevention. #ViolencePrevention

We are deeply troubled by the Justice Department’s decision to revoke critical funding for Community Violence Intervention (CVI) programs nationwide.
