Planetary goals like 30x30 don’t happen all at once. They happen piece by piece, when communities lead the protection of the places they know best. wcs.org/cbd #COP17Armenia
We now have an important new roadmap for conserving jaguars. New WCS-led research has produced a comprehensive map of how the iconic big cats move across the Americas. bit.ly/3VPtFBE
It’s a full circle moment, WCS’s Craig Piper tells @RogerClark41 and @NY1, to be planting American chestnut trees @BronxZoo, where chestnut blight was first identified over 100 years ago.

Last week, the armed group ADF attacked the Nduye Patrol Substation in the Okapi Wildlife Reserve, in the Democratic Republic of Congo. This resulted in the death of eco-guard Jean TANDU KOLIWA.
Mr. TANDU KOLIWA was 27 years old, married, and the father of one child. He joined @IccnRdc, DRC’s protected area management authority, in March 2026 and was part of the Anti-Poaching Department of the Okapi Wildlife Reserve.
Mr. TANDU KOLIWA fell in the line of duty while engaging the ADF attack. He was trying to preserve the integrity of this World Heritage Site in the face of the negative forces that are casting a shadow over the region.
Our sincere condolences to Jean TANDU KOLIWA’s family and his fellow rangers.

20 American chestnut trees are cause for celebration at our @bronxzoo, writes @nytimes. “This is so much more than planting trees to us,” said Craig Piper.
Proud to partner with @NYRP and The American Chestnut Foundation on this effort.
