The real advantage in China OSINT is not finding one piece of information. It is building the information chain. Finding the obscure database. Following the company. Tracing the people. That is what I teach in the China OSINT Course. Course sign-up: tertonintel.com/course

If you work on China, you’ve probably run into the same problem: The information you need is often there. It’s just not easy to find. A company buried in a Chinese registry. A PLA unit mentioned on a local government website. A recruitment notice revealing a capability. A Weibo account containing useful metadata. A satellite image showing what changed. The China OSINT Course teaches you how to find these sources, verify them, and connect the evidence. Tier 1 — $347 Core China OSINT. Tier 2 — $647 Everything in Tier 1, plus advanced PLA, satellite imagery, infrastructure, recruitment and AI-assisted OSINT. Self-paced. Practical. China produces an enormous amount of information every day. The problem is not a lack of information. The problem is knowing where to look. A Chinese company can reveal its strategy through recruitment advertisements. A PLA unit can leave traces across local government websites, procurement records and Chinese social media. A seemingly insignificant government announcement can reveal an organizational relationship. A corporate registration can connect companies, executives and state institutions. A satellite image can confirm what open sources only suggested. None of these clues are necessarily significant on their own. The advantage comes from knowing how to connect them. That is what we teach in the China OSINT Course. You will learn practical methods for researching: • Chinese companies and corporate networks • PLA units, bases and organizations • Military and government procurement • Chinese social media and local information sources • Recruitment and personnel signals • Chinese media ecosystems • Satellite imagery and facility analysis Core — $247 4 modules covering the foundations. Advanced — $547 All 7 modules, including corporate intelligence, PLA research and satellite imagery. Self-paced. Practical. Open-source. You don’t need access to classified information to start doing serious research on China. You need to know how to find the information that is already there. Build the capability. tertonintel.com/course #ChinaOSINT #OSINT #Intelligence #China #PLA #Geopolitics #NationalSecurity

I did not build the China OSINT Course by compiling a list of online tools. I built it around the problems I repeatedly encountered while reporting and researching China. How do you verify a claim when every English-language article cites the same source? How do you search for a Chinese military unit when its name appears under several translations? How do you distinguish an official policy signal from commentary, propaganda, or speculation? How do you turn dozens of fragments into a clear assessment without claiming more than the evidence supports? These are practical challenges I encountered while working with organizations including the BBC, Newsweek, and TaiwanPlus. The Terton Intelligence China OSINT Course brings those lessons into a structured, self-paced program for journalists, analysts, policy professionals, and researchers. It covers Chinese-language research, media and social-platform analysis, PLA tracking, corporate investigations, geolocation, source verification, and intelligence briefing. This is not a generic introduction to internet research. It is a working methodology for investigating China. tertonintel.com/course #OSINT #China #Journalism #IntelligenceAnalysis #PLA

Five headlines do not always mean five independent confirmations. A recent story about a PLA-linked nuclear-warning study appeared across several publications. At first glance, that looks like a well-corroborated development. Trace the reporting chain, however, and most versions lead back to the same underlying source. This is one of the most common traps in open-source intelligence: mistaking repetition for verification. Effective China OSINT requires more than collecting articles. You need to ask: • Where did the claim originate? • Is the original document available? • Who authored it, and which institution are they affiliated with? • Does the document represent official policy, professional debate, or one research team’s assessment? • Are multiple outlets independently confirming the claim, or simply repeating it? My China OSINT course teaches you how to trace claims back to their origin, evaluate Chinese institutional sources, distinguish genuine corroboration from circular reporting, and produce assessments that decision-makers can trust. No Mandarin fluency is required. Learn more at tertonintel.com/course #OSINT #China #IntelligenceAnalysis #SourceVerification #PLA #Geopolitics

A study by researchers from a PLA Rocket Force medical team has urged Chinese cities to prepare for the possibility of a nuclear attack. The researchers assess the likelihood of a large-scale global nuclear war as relatively low. However, they warn that a nuclear-armed state, a state capable of developing nuclear weapons, or a terrorist group could launch a single low-yield attack against a neighboring country or a major city. Japan features prominently in their threat framing. The study points to Tokyo’s position on the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons and debate surrounding its three non-nuclear principles as danger signals. Whether or not this scenario is probable, the language matters. China-focused OSINT is not only about tracking military deployments. It also means examining how PLA-affiliated researchers define threats, construct scenarios, and recommend preparations. Those signals can reveal how regional developments are being interpreted inside China’s broader security system. My China OSINT course teaches you how to: • Find and monitor PLA-affiliated publications • Identify shifts in doctrine and threat perception • Cross-reference Chinese claims with Japanese, Taiwanese, and US sources • Separate institutional signals from propaganda and media amplification No Mandarin fluency is required. A PLA-linked study just warned Chinese cities to prepare for possible nuclear attacks, and it singled out Japan by name. According to reporting on the study, published by the PLA Rocket Force, Chinese military analysts assess the odds of a large-scale global nuclear war as relatively low, but warn that small or medium-sized nuclear-armed states, or countries with the potential to become nuclear-armed, could carry out a single nuclear-weapon terrorist attack on a neighboring country or a major power’s key city. The report explicitly flags Japan as sending a major danger signal to the world, citing Tokyo’s non-accession to the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons and reported internal debates about revising the three non-nuclear principles. This is the kind of signal that matters for anyone tracking cross-strait and regional security: not just what militaries do, but how they frame risk, threat, and escalation in their own internal and semi-public discourse. My China OSINT course teaches you to track this directly: monitoring PLA-affiliated publications and state media for doctrinal and risk-assessment shifts, cross-referencing them with Japanese and US defense statements, and understanding how the same event gets framed completely differently depending on which capital you’re reading.
