385 OIL REFINERY WORKERS IN NEW JERSY LOCKED OUT  Members of Teamsters Local 877 at the Phillips 66 Bayway Refinery were locked out this afternoon after rejecting the company’s latest offer, which includes concessions that would undermine workers’ hard-earned gains. These 385 workers are essential to the operations of the largest oil refinery on the East Coast. Despite the critical role they play in keeping the refinery running, Phillips 66 has refused to offer meaningful improvements to wages, health care, and safety protections, while pushing concessions on the very workers who keep its operations running.

At the Teamsters 29th International Convention, Teamsters raised $1.5 million to help brother Travis Bornstein launch Tyler’s Redemption Place. Since then, the organization has helped countless people recover from addiction, rebuild their lives, and break down the stigma surrounding substance use. Thank you to every Teamster who donated and who continues to help make this work possible. This is what solidarity looks like.

Members of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Employees Association (JCSEA) voted by an overwhelming 99 percent to join Teamsters Local 223. “These workers serve Jackson County every day. They deserve fair pay, good benefits, and respect on the job,” said Austin DePaolo, Secretary-Treasurer of Local 223. “They made this choice together. Our job now is to stand with them, listen to their concerns, and turn that strong vote into action. We welcome JCSEA to Local 223 and look forward to the work ahead.” Now, Local 223 will work to protect these members’ rights and secure them a strong Teamsters contract.

Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien and General Secretary-Treasurer Fred Zuckerman were joined by Mark Wallace, President of the BLET and the Teamsters Rail Conference as well as Mike Smith, Director of the Teamsters Rail Conference. O’Brien and Zuckerman spoke about the vital contributions of the BLET to the Teamsters Union, as well as strategies to tackle upcoming priorities. “The partnership between the Teamsters Rail Conference and the International Union has never been stronger,” O’Brien said. “We are bargaining harder, organizing faster, and fighting more fiercely than we ever have. The International Brotherhood of Teamsters today is a better union because of the hard work, dedication, and engagement of our tens of thousands of railroaders across the country.”

The Union Pacific/Norfolk Southern mega merger would make one company richer than most countries on Earth, while raising prices for Americans. The Teamsters Rail Conference, which is made up of BLET and BMWED, represents more than half of Union Pacific's and Norfolk Southern’s unionized workforce. We are leading a broad-based coalition to oppose the merger.

Hundreds of public sector Teamsters were forced to strike after Orange County failed to offer a new contract. These workers provide critical services — like maintaining our parks, animal shelters, roads, and first responder vehicles — for more than three million country residents. By not offering Teamsters a new contract, the Orange County Board of Supervisors left workers with no choice but to hit the picket line. The responsibility to end this strike rests squarely on the shoulders of the Board of Supervisors.
