The Kingdom of Jordan contains amazing historical Christian sites. This week I visited several across Jordan, including Madaba (known as the City of Mosaics), Makawir (believed to be the site of John the Baptist’s imprisonment and beheading), and Bethany Beyond the Jordan (where Jesus was baptized) — all powerful reminders of the importance of preserving religious history. Thank you Dr. Emad Hijazeen of @MOTA_Jordan and to the many church leaders across denominations for their generous hospitality.

Ambassador Thornhill, welcome to the team. I’m proud to have such a dedicated leader join us as Ambassador-at-Large to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons. Human trafficking is a grave human rights issue and a transnational crime exploiting men, women, and children for profit. We will continue to go after traffickers, protect survivors, and deliver justice for the American people.

I was honored to speak alongside Prime Minister @NikolPashinyan ahead of Armenia’s second annual prayer breakfast. Such a gathering is only possible when people can live out their faith openly, freely, and without fear. His speech was inspiring. What an encouraging time.

China's August 25 sentencing of artist Gao Zhen to three years for "insulting revolutionary heroes and martyrs" – for art created over a decade before the 2018 law existed – is unjust. His closed-door trial undermines China's own constitutional guarantees. We call for his immediate release and for the authorities to allow his family to leave China.
