Building the first power grid in space to end power scarcity in orbit

Space has never had a power grid. Until now. The Star Catcher Network beams concentrated solar energy directly to satellites in orbit. Up to 10x more power, on demand, with no retrofit. This is the infrastructure that unlocks the next era of space.

“There's no better feeling in the world than having a complex problem, coming up with a solution, building that solution, and then having it work. That's what's driven my entire career.” Meet our Lead Optical Engineer, Dr. Josh Sinrud. How does he spend his days? Designing optical assemblies and high-power lasers that safely deliver energy across thousands of kilometers in space to our clients’ solar arrays. Here, Josh gets to own the entire design cycle. “Being able to put my hands on everything, every step of the way, is something that's entirely unique to Star Catcher.” We’re hiring across all roles — join our team to shape the future of wireless power beaming in space: 🔎 Optical Systems: grnh.se/1go5boon9us 🔎 Opto-Mechanical: grnh.se/cgk5waez9us #BeamOn #StarsOfStarCatcher

We are thrilled to share that our CMO, Camille Bergin, has been named a 2026 @payloadspace Pioneer. Payload Pioneers honors the next generation of space groundbreakers and movement shapers. We may be biased, but this honor couldn’t be more deserved. Building public awareness and trust in a complex, often opaque industry takes a rare talent. Camille turns technical milestones into moments anyone can understand. Her work has drawn top talent and investor interest to Star Catcher and positioned us as a leader in space energy infrastructure. We wouldn’t be where we are today without you, Camille. Congratulations, and thank you to Payload for this recognition! Read more here: payloadspace.com/camille-ber… #PayloadPioneer

We caught another star! 💫 We are thrilled to announce that Mike Mineiro has joined Star Catcher as our General Counsel. Mike has spent nearly 20 years at the forefront of space law, working across NOAA, Capitol Hill, the White House, commercial startups, and major law firms. As Staff Director & Senior Counsel for the House Space Subcommittee, he worked on the U.S. Commercial Space Launch Competitiveness Act of 2015, which included the world’s first law recognizing property rights to space resources. At the White House, he served as liaison to the National Space Council and worked on commercial space and regulatory reform. He then led legal, regulatory, and government affairs for HawkEye 360 before advising space companies as a Chambers Ranked Space Lawyer in global law firms Greenberg Traurig and Akin Gump. Mike holds three law degrees, including a master’s and doctorate from McGill University, and was also recently elected to the Board of Directors of the International Institute of Space Law. Mike says the novelty of Star Catcher’s technology and business model drew him to join full-time. “Commercial space power agreements have never existed before, and there’s no existing regulatory pathways clearly delineated for space power production — so it’s very cutting edge.” We’re entering uncharted territory, and building the first power grid in space takes someone who has spent their career writing the rules for what comes next. Welcome to the team, Mike!

Last week, our CMO Camille Bergin was named to @aiaa's inaugural 30/30 class, recognizing 30 young professionals shaping the future of aerospace. A past AIAA Wernher von Braun Scholarship recipient, Camille began her career as an aerospace engineer. Today, as Star Catcher’s CMO, she pairs that technical background with her gift for storytelling to ensure the world knows, trusts, and cares about what we are building. Congratulations, Camille! We’re proud to have you as a driving force behind the first power grid in space.

To celebrate @WorldSpaceWeek and sending our prototype power node into orbit, we are excited to share the official design of our Protostar launch poster. To help visualize the impact this space-based power beaming demonstration could have, we decided to leverage the solarpunk visual style. The solarpunk movement imagines a future in which technology works in harmony with nature to build a thriving, sustainable Earth. What is more solarpunk than a solar-powered energy grid in space? We partnered with artist Teresa Jack to envision the future for which Protostar is paving the way: a world in which we can utilize the full potential of space to create a better life for people on Earth, and beyond. Happy World Space Week – we’re closer to creating this future in space than most can imagine!

Our Space Power Beaming project is harnessing record-setting leaps in commercial technology with the Protostar mission by our partner @StarCatcherInd. Star Catcher’s Protostar power transmitter and DemoCatcher-1 receiver successfully launched this afternoon from Vandenberg Space Force Base as part of the @SpaceX Transporter-18 rideshare mission. This launch is the first ever space-based, optical power beaming demonstration between two untethered spacecraft.

Excited to see how this satellite-to-satellite power beaming demo works out (Star Catcher sending additional power to another sat). If they can execute the tracking and tight beaming, the market is there.
"Star Catcher Protostar: separation confirmed." Over the next few months, Protostar will deploy and track a CubeSat with our flight-proven satellite tracking software, then beam power to its off-the-shelf solar panels. Upon completion, this will be the world’s first optical power beamed between two free-flying spacecraft — a technological advancement that will pave the way for our orbital power grid. Stay tuned for more and #BeamOn ⭐️

Why did we name our first mission Protostar? For thousands of years, humanity has looked to the night sky to tell its stories. Points of light against the darkness became constellations that carried ancient myths and epic tales. Through the stars, we’ve traced the journey of humankind across the ages. Every star also has a journey of its own. Whether it grows into a red supergiant or a yellow dwarf, each star begins the same way: as a humble protostar. A protostar forms when gas and dust come together, contract, and heat up. As gravity squeezes it tighter, it glows for the first time. The sparks of fusion ignite, and although brief, they mark the beginning of a star. For us at Star Catcher, Protostar is our first light on orbit. Over the last two years, we’ve built and validated each element of our technology stack. Now Protostar, our prototype power node, brings them together on orbit for the first time, aiming to beam power between two free-flying spacecraft. Just as every protostar builds toward sustained fusion, our Protostar marks the first step toward sustained power. This mission serves as our testing ground, where we will sharpen all of our systems for what comes next: continuous, on-demand energy throughout space. Follow along as our journey unfolds, and tune in this Thursday to watch Protostar take flight.
