Safety is more than what happens after harm occurs.
It is also about creating spaces where people can speak, participate and seek support without fear of being blamed, dismissed or ignored.

We are deeply alarmed and outraged by reports and disturbing videos emerging from Ozoro, Delta State, showing coordinated sexual violence against women during a local festival.
This is unacceptable. This is criminal. This is Gender-based Violence.

No cultural practice, festival, or tradition can justify violence against women and girls.
Any system that enables harm must be challenged and dismantled. Nigeria cannot continue to be a place where women are told to hide to stay safe.
Safety is a right, not a privilege.

We demand justice. We demand accountability. We demand change.
And we will not be silent.
