Solar power is booming in South and Southeast Asia. Battery storage is not. @Spglobalratings thinks that will change. We anticipate that if countries are to meet their renewable energy goals, they will invest more in battery energy storage systems (BESS). These systems help balance the grid, ease transmission bottlenecks, and prevent the loss of power.

Decentralized finance (DeFi) lending leverages blockchain technology to power protocols that enable users to borrow and lend digital assets. These DeFi lending platforms allow permissionless, overcollateralized transactions that enable users to earn interest on their digital assets.
Aave is a prominent DeFi lending protocol operating on Ethereum and other blockchains. As of September 2026, Aave had over $19.2 billion in TVL, most of which was held in its most popular version, Aave v3.

India achieved its 2030 Nationally Determined Contribution target of 50% cumulative installed capacity from non-fossil sources ahead of schedule; the 2035 target is 60%. But early progress on capacity targets also changes the nature of the challenge. It is now moving from clean capacity creation to ensuring supply mix, reliability, flexibility and procurement.

Middle market collateralized loan obligations (MM CLOs) have seen remarkable growth in recent years, and middle market warehouse lines have expanded alongside them. At the start of 2020, just before the arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic, S&P Global Ratings had ratings on 86 MM CLO transactions and five warehouse line transactions. By mid-2026, those figures had increased sharply: we now rate more than 330 U.S. MM CLOs and 47 U.S. middle market warehouse transactions. These warehouses come from 12 managers and represent about $41.9 billion in assets.
These warehouse transactions serve a useful purpose in allowing direct lenders to scale their businesses, and their growth has also drawn investor attention. We routinely field questions from investors in the U.S. and Japan about how these transactions work, how they differ from MM CLOs, and how we rate them. This article is intended to answer those questions and provide a starting point for discussions. We’ll start with the basics and then move on to how we analyze CLO warehouses.

From @SPGlobalratings: As technological advancement in AI--with the potential to disrupt the software industry--shows no signs of slowing down, investors continue to question how this will affect credit quality in private credit. In our view, the impact of AI disruption on software companies poses more of a threat over the medium term, particularly considering the rise in maturities in 2028 and after, and the risks vary across the sector.

From @SPGMarketIntel: Global inflation remained elevated around mid-year, and looks set to rise further in the coming months, according to the leading indicators from the PMI data, potentially staying elevated into the new year.
US businesses reported the steepest price rise in output prices among the major economies in September, contrasting with falling charges in mainland China, where inflationary pressures were the weakest among the economies surveyed by the PMIs. However, stubbornly elevated inflation rates are also signalled for the eurozone, UK and Japan, with the PMI leading indicators all signalling inflation at levels well above central bank targets.

Worldwide PMI survey data indicated accelerating jobs growth in September, with firms encouraged back to the la-bour market amid reduced uncertainty about the business outlook compared to earlier in the year. Globally, job gains were the highest since May 2023, with the sectors distribution of jobs growth also broadening out to the widest for over two years.
The employment situation varied markedly regionally, however, with strong job gains reported in the US alongside robust increases also seen in India and Japan. More modest but improving employment situations were meanwhile seen in the eurozone and Mainland China, but jobs were cut in the UK, Australia, Canada, Russia and Brazil.

From @SPGMarketIntel: The traditional Financial Institution rating framework was primarily designed for banks and deposit-taking institutions whose credit risks differ fundamentally from those of fintech companies. While traditional rating frameworks rely heavily on balance sheet strength, physical collateral, and strict capital adequacy ratios, fintechs primarily deploy capital into intangible assets like proprietary software and intellectual property, making them appear undercapitalized under legacy metrics.

From @SPGlobalRatings: Dubai's residential real estate market has seen a significant drop in transaction volumes as a result of the Middle East war. However, specific segments of the market are now experiencing a price correction, albeit a moderate one. That’s because of a change in market dynamics over the past several years, with the United Arab Emirates' (UAE's) visa reforms supporting a higher proportion of long-term investors and end users.
S&P Global Ratings' base case is that the Middle East disruptions will continue into 2027. This, together with new deliveries due in 2027-2028, could accelerate the price correction, particularly in investor-driven apartment segments. However, the four real estate development companies we rate in Dubai--Damac Real Estate Development Ltd. (Damac), Emaar Properties PJSC (Emaar), Omniyat Holdings Ltd. (Omniyat), and PNC Investments LLC (Sobha)--have large revenue backlogs and limited payment delinquencies, supporting the ratings.

An unusually strong El Niño, which is expected to further intensify over the remainder of 2026, poses environmental and economic challenges across Asia. These will include reduced crop and livestock output, and possible water shortages, hydropower disruptions, and infrastructure damage. The resulting pressures on business, including potential operational interruptions, will inevitably weigh on regional financial institutions.
@SPGlobalRatings expects the impacts on banks to vary both in nature and degree, with geography and exposure to the most affected sectors, particularly agriculture, being the primary drivers of risk.
