Europe's migrant population grew by 40.8 million from 2000 to 2024, up 67%, per UN DESA estimates. Biggest gains: the UK +7.1M, Spain +6.8M, Germany +6.4M, Türkiye +5.8M, Italy +4.4M. Spain's foreign-born count more than quadrupled, from about 2.0M to 8.9M. That's people living there who were born somewhere else, not yearly arrivals. Alberta voted to stay in Canada, and it wasn't close. In Monday's referendum, about 75% said no to starting a legal process toward separation. About 25% said yes. That's the unofficial count from Elections Alberta, as reported by AP, CBC and the Globe and Mail. Turnout ran big. Ballots are being hand counted, and the other nine questions on the ballot are still being tallied. PM Mark Carney: "It's a great result for Canada." Separatist leaders say they aren't done. France is putting parts of its biggest cities under curfew tonight after what AP calls the country's worst rioting in years. Paris police banned anyone from Place de la République and the Les Halles shopping district from 11pm Monday to 6am Tuesday local time. Lyon has an overnight curfew too, and Lille and Nice set curfews for minors, per AP and BBC. More than half a million people marched Saturday over living costs and school conditions. Rioters on the fringes torched and looted. At least 2,400 arrested and about 3,000 businesses damaged or looted, authorities told AP. Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez admitted police "lost control" in some cities and offered to resign. Macron said no. PM Sébastien Lecornu said nobody was killed, "and that is a miracle." Hard news out of Alberta. Four Canadian service members are dead and dozens more seriously wounded after a fire tore through Canadian Forces Base Wainwright on Saturday, Prime Minister Mark Carney said Sunday. He called it one of the worst tragedies for the Forces on Canadian soil in peacetime. The fire started in a training area around 4pm local time and spread past the training grounds fast, per Canada's National Defence. AP says fierce winds pushed it off the base into the countryside. The military says there's no sign of terrorism. Cause is under investigation. Several Alberta hospitals went into mass casualty mode, per the Globe and Mail.
