Shouting out all our service members who ran or cycled the Army Ten-Miler last weekend. Whether you were crushing the race with Team Semper Fi or cheering from the sidelines, we are so grateful to everyone who represented The Fund.

On October 4, 2012, 3rd Platoon, B Co from 3rd ID was finishing up a multi-day mine clearing mission in the Kandahar region of Afghanistan. SSG Russell Dennison was the acting platoon sergeant and was leading a dismounted patrol towards the extraction point. While clearing for IEDs with the mine hound, he was struck by a pressure plate IED and was thrown 20 feet into a creek, losing both of his legs. Combat medic Calvin Todd heard the blast and while running towards him to render aid, stepped on another pressure-plate IED, losing his left leg.
Both soldiers were medevaced to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center where The Fund met them while they recovered together, providing support for them and their families that continues to this day.
Both are thriving – Calvin is a carpenter and hockey dad, and Russell is working towards his personal training certifications and a dance dad.
Today, on their 14th Alive Day, we salute the bravery and selflessness of SSG Russell Dennison and SGT Calvin Todd.

In 2015, Corporal Leo Andrade was one of 20 Marines involved in a devastating seven-ton truck rollover during a training exercise at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton. The accident left Leo with a broken back and multiple serious injuries. Unconscious after the crash, he awoke in the hospital with no memory of the days that followed.
While Leo struggled to piece together what had happened, Semper Fi & America’s Fund was already at his bedside. The Fund walked alongside Leo as he navigated the challenges of healing, rebuilding his life, and transitioning from military service.
The Fund’s commitment does not end when a service member leaves the hospital or hangs up the uniform. We remain by their side for as long as they need us, helping them overcome new challenges, celebrate milestones, and build a brighter future.
“The Fund is a great resource for help and is full of people who genuinely care about service members and veterans.”

The countdown to Marine Corps Marathon 2026 is officially on! With less than 50 days to race day, our community athletes and Team Semper Fi are entering the home stretch of their training.
Every early morning run, every grueling hill, and every mile logged in the coming weeks supports our Nation’s critically wounded, ill, and injured service members, veterans, and military families.
Drop a word of encouragement in the comments for our runners!

Army veteran Ned Mitchell’s life changed forever after sustaining life-altering injuries from an improvised explosive device while deployed to Iraq. A Purple Heart recipient, Ned now lives with the lasting effects of traumatic brain injury, PTSD, anxiety, and the loss of his left hand.
When severe hailstorm damage caused a roof leak that left his bathroom in need of extensive repairs, accessibility became an even greater challenge. Through the generosity of @HomeDepotFound, Semper Fi & America’s Fund provided funding for a bathroom remodel that included important ADA accessibility features, such as a widened doorway, grab bars, and a shower seat, helping create a safer, more accessible space that supports Ned’s independence every day.
We are grateful to The Home Depot Foundation for helping make home accessibility improvements possible for wounded, ill, and injured service members and veterans. Together, we are helping ensure our Nation’s heroes have homes that support their independence, safety, and quality of life.
Veterans are building new careers, launching businesses, and creating greater stability for their families through our Apprenticeship Program.
We are grateful to partner with @DAVHQ Charitable Service Trust in helping wounded, ill, and injured veterans gain access to training, mentorship, and resources that help turn their goals into action.
Together, we're helping veterans build lasting success beyond military service.

On the 5th Anniversary of the Abbey Gate bombing, we remember both the 13 U.S. service members who lost their lives and the many who were injured.
We are proud to stand with service members like Sergeant Tyler Vargas-Andrews and Corporal Kelsee Lainhart, whom The Fund has had the distinct privilege of supporting over the last five years since their initial injuries.
We are honored to support our Nation’s heroes.
In 2010, Marine Sergeant Colin Faust stepped on a pressure-plate improvised explosive device (IED) after a firefight with Taliban forces in Afghanistan.
The explosion left him catastrophically wounded, resulting in an above-the-knee amputation of his left leg, devastating injuries to his right leg, a broken pelvis, extensive shrapnel wounds, a concussion, a ruptured eardrum, and multiple broken bones.
Despite the severity of his injuries, Colin remained conscious throughout a harrowing evacuation. Fellow Marines and Navy Corpsmen applied five tourniquets to stop life-threatening blood loss before carrying him nearly 1,000 meters across terrain still littered with explosives.
As Colin fought for his life at the National Naval Medical Center, Semper Fi & America’s Fund was there, providing immediate support to his family and beginning a relationship that continues more than a decade later.
Throughout every stage of his recovery, The Fund has helped Colin and his family. From accessible transportation and adaptive vehicle modifications to a wheelchair-accessible home, caregiver retreats for his wife, Julia, and mother, Sonja, and much more.
Today, Colin and Julia are raising their four children while building a life rooted in faith, family, and service. After spending five years as a teacher, Colin founded Crown of Thorns Academy, an all-boys elementary school dedicated to teaching, forming, and mentoring young men. Through his work, he continues to help the next generation discover purpose, resilience, and hope.

Wearing a Semper Fi & America’s Fund shirt, we are proud of this service member honoring the American flag 🇺🇸
“I picked that beautiful flag up off that ground.”
Marine veteran and double amputee Tony Mullis stopped on a Georgia highway after spotting a U.S. flag on the ground beside the busy interstate.
Mullis, who lost both legs after an explosion during his second tour in Afghanistan, got out of his SUV to retrieve the flag.
He said seeing the flag on the ground “broke my heart” because it reminded him of those who sacrificed for the country.
The Fund’s Back-to-School events have been happening across the country the last few weeks.
In San Antonio, service members and their families enjoyed a fun night out at a San Antonio Missions minor league baseball game with a classic ballpark dinner packed with hot dogs, burgers, cookies, and more.
We are honored to support our military families.

On National Purple Heart Day, we honor those who carry the physical and invisible wounds of war.
Those like Marine Sergeant Henry Maldonado who sustained severe burns, a traumatic brain injury, and lasting damage to his left side, including hearing loss in a suicide bomber attack in 2004.
Join Semper Fi & America’s Fund in thanking the men and women who wear the Purple Heart.

#TeamSemperFi took on the @GeorgiaAquarium for a unique scuba diving adventure last week!
We are honored to provide recovery through sport for our service members and veterans.
On July 25, 2012, seventeen years into Master Sgt. Cedric King’s service to our country, he was severely wounded in an IED explosion during his third deployment.
The blast caused internal injuries, permanent damage to his right arm, and the amputation of both of his legs. Cedric was medevaced to safety and put into a medically induced coma to heal.
But upon waking, he learned he would never be alone on his journey to healing.
The Fund first provided help at Cedric’s hospital bedside, offsetting the cost of his wife’s loss of income to allow them to remain together during the most difficult moments of their lives. When he returned home as an amputee, The Fund continued to deliver vital support, including grants for travel, an adaptive vehicle, and home remodels to make sure Cedric received necessary medical help and ensure he had a safe, comfortable, and accessible place to call home, all of which has proved life-changing in more ways than Cedric could imagine.
Cedric is now the recipient of the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Legion of Merit, and the Order of Saint Maurice, the Patron Saint of the Infantry, and is a passionate advocate for the injured veteran community and military families.

In 2019, U.S. Army Major Jon Turnbull survived a suicide bombing in Syria, losing his vision, and sustaining life-altering injuries.
Last month, he competed at the 2026 Warrior Games.
The 2026 Warrior Games brought together nearly 200 wounded, ill, and injured service members and veterans from the Army, Marine Corps, Navy/Coast Guard, Air Force/Space Force, and Special Operations Command to compete across multiple adaptive sporting events.
Semper Fi & America’s Fund is incredibly proud to have stood by Jon from his initial injury through this latest challenge 💪🇺🇸
