Social media died four years ago and for the last four years we’ve been in interest media. You no longer get the content on your feeds from the people you follow like your cousin or your best friend from middle school. You get content based on what you’ve recently been into. Interest media is the term that’s used for the current state of what it was known as social media. Where you get content that’s based on what you’re currently interested in. This is the current state of the internet and very important because interest media allows platforms to keep users on the platform longer because you’re seeing things you’re actually into now, not people you used to follow. Your ability to change what you’re seeing in your feed is very, very, very real and all you have to do is use the search function in these platforms and search new topics and engage with that content. Or use the explore page and engage with it. Or control “not interested” in the content that you’re no longer interested in. I do think people eventually will get tired of this and I predict that long-term platforms are going to have both an interest media feed and a social media feed, aka people that you want to follow. I think a double-feed platform is inevitable.

When you only came in for protein but then you see a snack

The croissant urge always gets me!!

Doomscrolling is often unconscious. Our thumbs keep moving before we have decided whether we want to continue. Selva helps us bring that impulse into conscious awareness. When we notice the urge, we give ourselves a chance to stop scrolling and choose what happens next.
4
Sometimes doomscrolling is not a decision. We open our phone, get comfortable and disappear into the feed before noticing what happened. The first step is simply catching the impulse while it is happening.
5
I track resisted and gave-in results because awareness needs a scoreboard. The aim is to notice sooner and improve against myself over time.

Pausing does not guarantee I will resist. It gives me 45 seconds to turn an automatic reaction back into a conscious decision.

An urge can feel like an emergency without being one. The feeling is real, but I do not always need to obey it immediately.
3
Repetition can turn a deliberate choice into a cue-driven response. That is why an old urge can appear before my conscious reasons catch up. This is what Selva responsibly works on.
3
Sometimes I have bought the snack before I feel I have made a decision. The shop, the counter and the familiar choice can become one automatic route. This is why Selva is the solution.
4
I like treating my habits as a scoreboard, not a judgement. Sleep, workouts and resisted urges become numbers I can notice and try to improve.

Poor sleep does not explain every bad decision. But if I track sleep beside my urges, I can see whether the same pattern keeps repeating in my own life.

When The Takeaway Urge Gets In the Way
4
When I am tired, the gap between an impulse and an action feels smaller. Takeaway, sugar and scrolling become easier before I have properly decided.
3
I did not build Selva to make the internet less interesting. I built it to create space before I scroll, then show me how often I actually resisted.
3
A pause makes an unconscious impulse visible. Tracking what happens next turns it into a result I can measure, learn from and try to improve.
3
It can feel like one person against millions of creators, thumbnails and titles competing for attention. My aim is not perfect avoidance. It is creating enough space to choose.

DO NOT ANSWER. Resist with Selva❤️

Most people don't fail because they lack discipline. They fail because the decision happened before they realised they were making it. Awareness creates a gap between the urge and the action. That's where change begins.
